WWE superstar Wade Barrett has sent fans wild hours before Monday Night Raw after teasing an in ring return.

The Preston-born wrestler hasn’t had a match since 2016 and can currently be seen alongside Joe Tessitore on the red brand’s announce team, having moved into commentary since hanging up his boots.

While he has always insisted he never officially retired, Barrett has now dropped a major hint he could be getting back in the ring one week after he appeared to confront his longtime friend Drew McIntyre.

The official WWE account on X shared a video of his ‘career highlights’, but the former Intercontinental Champion’s response sent fans wild.

‘*Career highlights, thus far,’ he coyly replied.

That is already enough to get fans talking, with plenty of people taking it as a clear sign the Englishman is poised for a genuine in-ring comeback.

‘Wade we’ve been waiting man come on don’t do this to us,’ wrote X user @TooSweetMeBro, while @Youngy54 quipped: ‘So you’re telling me there’s a chance?’

‘That’s what I like to hear,’ tweeted @keri121376, and @TheDamagedOne95 added: ‘OMG IT’S GOING TO HAPPEN, YES!!! LFG!!!🔥🔥🔥’

His last in-ring appearance saw him teaming with the likes of Rusev, Curtis Axel, Drew McIntyre, Heath Slater, Jinder Mahal and more against The Shield in an 11-on-one match.

Despite being happy with his role as a commentator, Barrett previously admitted he would be open to another match if it made sense.

He nearly returned to the ring for the NWA when now-SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis approached him about working together, but it wasn’t to be.

‘Very quickly after that conversation happened, I’d say within two or three weeks, the pandemic hit, the world got shut down, NWA shut down for the best part of 12 months,’ he exclusively told Metro.co.uk via AceOdds earlier this year.

‘I’m fit and healthy, if something came up where, ‘Okay, there’s a match here, would you be interested in doing it?’ If it makes sense to me and I was excited to do it, absolutely, I could.’

And he has made it clear the one match he would come back for is a bout against Drew McIntyre himself on a huge stage.

He admitted: ‘Anytime I get asked this question, if I could have one match for the remainder of my days on this planet and you’re allowed one more match, who would it be?

‘And it would absolutely be me against Drew McIntyre at Wembley Stadium. A sold out Wembley Stadium, I think that is the pinnacle for British wrestling.’
