Dame Joan Collins thinks ‘wokery has got out of control’ in the UK-Alistair McGeorge-Entertainment – Metro

Dame Joan Collins has claimed woke ideology has rid the UK of its sense of humour.

The 90-year-old Hollywood legend has taken aim at the changing culture in comedy while hitting out at political correctness for going ‘out of control’.

‘I think it’s gone out of control, really. You can’t say anything. People get offended. We’ve lost our British sense of humour,’ she said on GB News.

The Dynasty star bemoaned living in a timeline where comedians aren’t having to move beyond ‘fat’ jokes or digs at mother-in-laws.

She complained: ‘I grew up with my father going to – because he was an agent for variety halls – and so we would go and we would see outrageous comedians making jokes about their mother-in-law and fat people.

‘You can’t say that now. You can’t say any of that stuff now.’

She even complained about female stars being referred to as an ‘actor’ rather than an ‘actress’, insisting she prefers the latter as it’s ‘a very pretty word and it’s feminine’.

She argued: ‘And why should we be called female actors? I find it demeaning, frankly.’

Dame Joan insisted she never calls herself an actor – if she can help it.

‘If I’m in a room with some actors and actresses, I call us actors, and I do sometimes call myself a jobbing actor,’ she added. ‘But on the whole, I like to be called an actress.’

Dame Joan hasn’t been shy of sharing her views, and last year she warned about the dangers of artificial intelligence.

She appeared on The One Show a year ago and revealed her fears after a segment about the incredible AI and robotics at the Milton Keynes Robotics Competition.

Alex jokingly asked Dame Joan if she could ever see a robot replacing her fifth husband, Percy Gibson, who she has been married to for over two decades.

To which Dame Joan answered witheringly: ‘Are you kidding? He’s irreplaceable.’

She went on: ‘I don’t like the idea of robots. I really don’t. I don’t even like the idea of “Alexa, put on my telephone,” or whatever. I just think they are too close to taking us over, I don’t like that idea.’
