90s heartthrob looks unrecognisable 30 years after hit show-Lillie Rohan-Entertainment – Metro

He shot to fame at just 21 years old, portraying the one and only Nick Poulos in the 90s sitcom Heartbreak High, but 30 years later, you may do a double take when you see this star. 

Alex Dimitriades, now 50 years old, won over hearts all around the world with his appearance on the hit Australian show and broke them with his abrupt departure in late 1994. 

Despite his popularity, the show’s creator, Network Ten, refused to pay Alex for the second season, which ultimately saw his character meet a tragic end. 

But despite his unexpected departure, Alex has gone on to have a successful career, starring in the Logie Award-winning series Blue Murder and The Infinite Man before leaving acting to become DJ Boogie Monster, one of Sydney’s top DJs. 

Now, on the 30th anniversary of the hit 90s show which helped launch him into stardom, the actor looks almost unrecognisable to his early days of fame. 

Once sporting a clean-shaven look and a baby face with dark floppy hair, the star now alternates between a full beard and stubbled face paired with shorter hair and a more mature look.

And his style has seen a big change as well, as he’s swapped his relaxed attire for a more classy t-shirt and blazer look. 

In the years since his rise to fame, the actor turned DJ has reflected on his time in the industry, telling Daily Mail Australia in 2021 that he was ‘very lucky’ in the way his career was ‘set up and structured’. 

‘I was a teenager and we did a movie first, The Heartbreak Kid and that was hugely successful. I was like a young new star and they really put me out there,’ he said. 

He added: ‘And I had no idea what was going on, I was rolling with the punches and I was very, very young and just out there, living the dream I suppose. I knew I was good at it [acting] and I knew I had potentially a good future with but it’s not something I ever imagined doing. It was pretty wild.’

But as we now know, his acting career wasn’t his long-term plan, and he more recently sat down with news.com.au to talk about his transition into working as a DJ in Sydney. 

‘I’ve just always loved records, but most importantly quality, inspired music and not necessarily what you can access so easily,’ he said. 

The star also spoke about his more chic look as he enters his 50s, stating that he may look different but he is ‘the same person’. 

‘I was starting trying to visualise where I wanted to go with this thing and not get caught up with [the idea of], “how awesome I am”,’ he said.
