We’ve all heard of the 2015 gold or blue dress conundrum, but before the viral phenomenon, there was another, and it came in the form of a maybe blue, maybe green dress in the popular sitcom Friends.
In season three, Jennifer Aniston’s character Rachel Green wore a sweetheart-neckline dress that became a talking point not because of how flattering it looked on the actress, 55, but because no one could agree on its colour.
The debate began when the episode titled, The One Where No One’s Ready, aired and followed Ross, played by David Schwimmer, rush to get the Friends crew dressed for a black-tie benefit dinner at his work.
Jennifer’s character can be seen walking out of her room in a dress that appears blue, but some fans believe it is green. Now, on the sitcom’s 30th anniversary, the truth has been revealed.
Taking to Instagram, Jennifer shared two stills from the episode side by side, showing where the confusion came from. In one HD image, the dress looks mint green, while in the other image, which is in 4K, it looks baby blue.
‘For the record’, she wrote above the pictures, ‘the dress was mint green.’

Friends, which ran between 1994 and 2004 and featured a core cast of Jennifer, the late Matthew Perry, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, and Matt LeBlanc, became a source of style inspiration for many, with Jennifer’s character becoming a sort of style icon.
In 2020, she was declared her the ultimate fashion muse and TV’s number-one style icon thanks to her preppy and chic looks.
Friends is celebrating its 30th anniversary this month, with showrunner Max announcing they are creating a short series game show titled Fast Friends, which will be made up of four episodes.
‘From racing through Rachel and Monica’s apartment to darting across Joey and Chandler’s bachelor pad and grabbing a coffee at Central Perk, fans will relive their favourite moments while being put to the test with trivia, puzzles and games that will keep even the most die-hard Friends fans on their toes,’ the synopsis read.

It comes after a source responded to rumours the Friends cast are ‘concerned’ about Matt, 57, following the shock death of Matthew last October 28.
The actor, famous for his role as Joey Tribbiani, was said to have made his former co-stars ‘worried’ with his behaviour and appearance almost one year after giving a heartfelt tribute and attending the private funeral of his late pal in November.
However, an inside source slammed the claims and set the record straight last week: ‘Nobody’s body shaming Matt or accusing him of anything untoward lifestyle, that’s not what’s going on here.

‘What’s concerning though, for Jen and all the Central Perk crew, is that he’s such a recluse these days and they barely hear from him from one month to the next.’
Another insider told In Touch Weekly that his co-stars ‘want to get him back in the fold and get him smiling again’, after the tragedy of Perry’s death taught them ‘how short and precious life truly is’.
Matt was close to Matthew before his death, and was the first of the five Friends stars to pay tribute.
