Sports Interactive has announced that Football Manager 25 will launch in November, which will mark the arrival of women’s football to the long-running series.

While it may not be EA Sports FC, the Football Manager series is a quiet juggernaut which has been going on for nearly 20 years.

The series originally began life as Championship Manager in 1992, but developer Sports Interactive split from publisher Eidos Interactive and lost the naming rights. Following the fallout, it rebranded as Football Manager (the name borrowed from the early 80s series by Kevin Toms) in 2005 under Sega.

The next instalment, Football Manager 25, promises some significant leaps for the series, with a switch to the Unity engine leading to a major visual and technical overhaul, while women’s football will also be featured for the first time.

In a new trailer, Sports Interactive reveal Football Manager 25 will arrive on PC and Mac on November 26, the same date the console version hits Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and PlayStation 5.

Football Manager Mobile will launch on November 26 as a Netflix exclusive, while a touchscreen version, Football Manager 25 Touch, will arrive on Nintendo Switch on December 3.

If you pre-order the PC or Mac version digitally through Steam, the Epic Games Store or other Sega-approved retailers, you’ll receive a 10% discount (£40.50 instead of £44.99). Pre-orders for the other versions are set to go live at a later date.

While the game usually comes out in early November, this year’s entry slipped to later in the month due to a ‘challenging’ development cycle.

Sports Interactive studio director Miles Jacobson said: ‘As I’ve mentioned in interviews and development updates, the Football Manager 25 cycle has been challenging for the entire Sports Interactive team.

‘Football Manager is just the starting point for the studio’s next 20, 30 years. It’s also the point where the world gets to see two of our multi-year projects come to fruition: the switch to the Unity engine and the introduction of women’s football.

‘It gives us a real sense of achievement to begin sharing our hard work with you and we’re really looking forward to showing you more of the game in the weeks before the game’s release.’
