This iconic 70s British sitcom shop is up for auction at £150,000-Ruth Lawes-Entertainment – Metro

If you’ve got £150,000 to spare, you can buy a slice of British television history.

The iconic corner shop from BBC sitcom Open All Hours, which starred Sir David Jason and Ronnie Barker, is up for auction.

The property in Lister Avenue, Doncaster was used for the external shots of Arkwright in the 70s show.

Most recently a hairdresser’s salon, the building is being sold by Pugh Auctions on October 15 for a guide price of £150,000 and over.

In 2006, the building was nearly demolished but was saved by campaigners, according to the BBC.

Open All Hours ran for four seasons and 26 episodes from 1976 until 1985.

In 2004, it was ranked number eight in the Britain’s Best Sitcom poll.

The sitcom followed the cantankerous grocery shop owner Albert Arkwright (Barker), his fiancée nurse Gladys (Lynda Baron) and his beleaguered nephew Granville (Jason).

Open All Hours was revived in 2014 as Still Open All Hours after a successful Boxing Day special, which saw Sir David reprise his much-loved role of Granville.

At the time, it became one of the most watched programmes over the festive period – beating even the likes of Doctor Who and Mrs Brown’s Boys with its audience of 9.43m viewers.

However, in 2023, the BBC announced no more Still Open All Hours episodes were in the pipeline.

A BBC spokesperson said: ‘There are currently no plans for new episodes of Still Open All Hours.’

They confirmed to British Comedy Guide: ‘We’d like to thank the cast and crew for six wonderful series, which are all available to view on BBC iPlayer.’

It’s not the only property from an iconic show to have gone up for sale in the past few months.

In the summer, the four-bedroom, three-bathroom home from The Sopranos was listed for $579,000 (£448,000)/

It was known as the home of Uncle Junior (played by Dominic Chianese) and was the famous site where Tony Soprano (James Gandolfini) dug up garden dirt in search for $40,000 (£31,000).
