BBC viewers have urged The Traitors fans to catch up on a new series which has just dropped.

The murder-mystery gameshow, hosted by Claudia Winkleman in the UK, took the nation by storm when it launched in 2022.

After 12 episodes and beating 19 other contestants, including master manipulator Wilfred Webster, Faithfuls Meryl Williams, Aaron Evans and Hannah Byczkowski took home the £101,050.

The following season, Harry Clark proved to be the ultimate Traitor and won the cash prize after some seriously jaw-dropping moments and blistering betrayals.

It’s nearly been a year since UK viewers have been treated to a new series with Strictly Come Dancing host Claudia, and though the celebrity version is also in the works and BBC iPlayer did manage to gift us the US version, there’s now another new batch of episodes to binge.

The Traitors New Zealand season one, which first aired in 2023, is now available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

It follows 19 players manipulating each other to try and get their hands on the $70,000 (£33,000) winnings, and is hosted by New Zealand broadcaster Paul Henry.

‘Not to miss out on the BBC Iplayer, the new Traitors. This time, it is the NZ version. I watched the first episode and the candidates are likeable. The traitors have been well picked,’ @OliverMisher urged on X.

‘BEYOND EXCITED!! BEYOND THRILLED!! All fans around the world of all things #Traitors related will also be rejoicing so much as in 2 days time #TraitorsNZ will be landing on @bbcthree. What a sweet treat that’s going to be,’ @superpidge wrote earlier this week.

Praising the show when it first aired, @rushworld wrote on Reddit: ‘Yep! It reached my #1 season for English speaking versions. There was enough subterfuge without a*****ish behaviour and smart faithful that it was a great mix and you were rooting for both sides by the end.’

‘Solid season next to AU1 and UK1,’ @Impressive_Eagle_390 added.

‘Loved the cast from traitors NZ the most so far of the seasons I’ve seen,’ @velocity2ds said.

Others commented on the fact that some contestants already knew each other before going into the game, with several famous faces part of the line-up.

@Far_Hamster_7121 wrote: ‘We absolutely loved it! I actually liked that so many knew each other previously; it added an extra dimension to the whole thing.’

@switheld agreed: ‘yes! enough of them were GOOD enough at the game that it was really satisfying to watch. a lot of good twists – trying to avoid spoilers – but the traitors played an interesting game from the get go. of course, several people knew each other in real life, so i’m sure that is partly why they were so good at the game!’

The Traitors New Zealand included a few models and influencers, broadcasters Mike Peru and Brodie Kane, a professional poker player, a filmmaker, a former police officer and a psychic.

Arapper, ballroom dancer, radio presenter Matt Heath and two comedians were also part of the cast.

The Traitors, based on a Dutch game show called De Verraders, has several other international series to watch including Canada, France, Germany, Spain and Australia.

However, fans were left heartbroken when it was announced last year that the Aussie version, presented by actor Rodger Corser, was getting axed after just two seasons.

One dismayed viewer fumed: ‘Baffling. The first series was so messy and iconic.’

‘What an evil world we live in,’ another said, while a third complained: ‘Well that is just rude.’

According to reports, The Traitors Australia suffered with poor ratings, with the first season averaging just 250,000 metro viewers per episode, and the second season’s premiere drawing in just 216,000 metro viewers.

Thankfully though, The Traitors UK is returning for a third and fourth series, with the celebrity line-up rumoured to include Courteney Cox, Rylan Clark and Kathy Burke.

The Traitors is available to watch on BBC iPlayer.
