A fan who took part in a recent playtest for Project Rene says it feels like a spin-off of The Sims 4 and that we can forget about Bella Goth being involved.
Electronic Arts announced Project Rene back in 2022 and while at the time it was thought to be The Sims 5, EA has since said it has no plans to make a sequel, and so ever since fans have been wondering exactly what it is.
After a recent playtest of the game, leaks have started to surface, including screenshots of the art, which was ridiculed by fans on social media.
Now, another playtester has come forward with new details, inviting fans to ask them about Project Rene in an AMA on Reddit.
The leaker posted images to prove that they were part of the playtest, which involved a mobile build of the game, and was quickly bombarded with questions.
One fan asked what the key differences are between Project Rene and The Sims 4, to which the leaker said:
‘Same old click to move. No joystick, none of that,’ adding in another reply:
It’s a ‘semi-open world. From what I was able to explore, it’s a slightly better open world than The Sims 3. Although not by a lot.’
They also said it was ‘Very hit or miss. Graphics look decent enough for a mobile game.’
The leaker was also asked if Project Rene felt like a sequel to The Sims 4, to which they said, ‘I feel spin-off. There is no real connection to the main Sims. Don’t expect to see Bella Goth anywhere.’
‘I feel its supposed to be a simple, Sims mobile game. No storyline really,’ they added in another reply.
The art style was criticised earlier this week as ‘worse and more bland than The Sims 4’, and that rings true for this leaker as well, who added some interesting analogies in their feedback.
‘It feels very bland, almost safe, comfortable, and corporate. Think like a taco with no seasoning or flavour. Think Marvel with no superhero. That type of bland.’
As for the best part of the build, they said the multiplayer aspect was very good, and ‘fleshed out enough’.
There was also a playtest earlier this year, and that one suffered from leaks too, with the main takeaways being what looked like the full map of Project Rene and its return to an open world design.
