The Voice UK judge Will.i.am nearly leaped out of his chair when he heard the note-perfect audition from the daughter of an 80s popstar.

In this week’s ITV show, Aaliyah also wows LeAnn Rimes, Sir Tom Jones, Danny Jones, and Tom Fletcher when she takes to the stage.

Wearing a gold dress, the aspiring popstar belts out a spine-tingling rendition of Lizzo’s hit Cuz I Love You during the blind auditions.

The Voice UK fans will have to wait until this weekend to learn Aaliyah’s fate – but she is certainly no stranger to the highs and lows of the music industry.

Her dad is David Joseph, the keyboard player and lead vocals for 80s band Hi-Tension, which was formed in North West London.

The Brit funk group had a top 20 hit, Hi Tension, and a song, British Hustle, which reached the top 10 in the UK charts.

By 1983, David had left the Hi-Tension and started his own solo career, releasing singles including You Can’t Hide (Your Love from Me) and Let’s Live It Up (Nite People.

David and Aaliyah’s other loved ones accompanied her to her The Voice audition and watched in awe alongside presenter Emma Willis.

This season of The Voice UK has been packed full of heart-warming performances – including from 76-year-old Bette Reynolds.

Not only can Bette boast of being the show’s oldest contestant but it was the first time she had been on stage in 58 years – and she performed a rap song.

Elsewhere in the show, Tony Henry from Inverness left the judges in tears after he proposed to his partner on stage.

The 63-year-old, who started a gospel choir after moving from London to the Scottish Highlands, performed a rendition of Nella fantasia by Ennio Morricone.

Despite his impressive vocals, Tony was unable to get any of the coaches to turn.

However, there was a surprise in store when he asked his partner Rebecca on stage and got down on one knee.

As she said yes, the coaches and crowd jumped to their feet, with Tom wiping away tears as he exclaimed: ‘What just happened. I’m a mess.’

The Voice UK continues on ITV and ITVX on Saturday from 8.30pm.
