WWE fans were left retching as Drew McIntyre and CM Punk delivered one of the most brutal Hell In A Cell matches in history.

The two bitter rivals, whose real life animosity has spilled in front of the cameras in a feud which has been dominating shows around the world since January this year, kicked off Bad Blood in style 27 years after the very first HIAC bout.

From wrenches and table legs to chairs and chains, the two veterans went all out and spilled each other’s blood all over the ring.

The term ‘crimson mask’ has never been more applicable, with Drew getting blinded as he bled into his own eyes before the referee had to intervene and wipe him clean with a towel.

Blood is seldom seen at this level in WWE anymore, but viewers were treated to a violent spectacle even Art the Clown would be proud of.

Not surprisingly, a lot of squeamish fans were shocked by what they were seeing, with many branding the bout one of the most brutal in history.

‘I turned on #WWEBadBlood late … it’s living up to its name 😵‍💫😵‍💫,’ wrote @itsbriaaa, while fellow X user @STMKen24 said: ‘We’ve just witnessed the world’s sickest psychotic psychopaths #wwebadblood 👀👀🩸🩸🩸’

‘I’m scared to watch the rest of this match 😂 This is so ugly and brutal,’ admitted @katieLOUDen, as @Mysterio)01 added: ‘This was absolutely SICK. Perfect end to this Drew – Punk feud #WWEBadBlood.

And @MissMegWinter tweeted: ‘Okay I’m not even sad that Drew lost, that was a 5 star 10/10 match! I’m gonna be sick after the way Drew landed on those steps 🤢🙈 🤼‍♀️ #WWEBadBlood’

After the referee had to step in for safety reasons, the live crowd actually booed, but others pointed out how important it was for the official to protect the wrestlers in the ring.

Fan @lovesickplaid wrote: ‘F**k this crowd booing the ref for wiping blood out their eyes so they can continue battering each other. they need to know where that upside down table is.’

Punk picked up the win with a GTS delivered with a chain wrapped round his knee, putting an end to one of WWE’s most personal and intense rivalries in recent memory.

WWE Bad Blood is available to stream live now, or watch on demand later via the WWE Network.
