It’s every fan’s dream to spontaneously run into their celebrity idol and for a group of young boys, that dream became a reality. They just had no idea they were talking to a 00s pop icon.

While visiting a local ice cream parlour over the weekend, a group of young boys found themselves in a unique situation when a woman purchased them a scoop of Katy Perry’s Baby You’re a Firework Blue Raspberry ice cream.

That woman was Katheryn Hudson, aka Katy, 39, herself, but despite her best efforts at convincing them, the boys weren’t having a bar of it and continued to believe she was just an ordinary person.

The Hot N Cold singer and her sister Angela Lerche took to Instagram yesterday and told fans they had a ‘sweet tooth’ and were curing it with a trip to McConnell’s Ice Cream in their hometown of Santa Barbara.

The siblings, who are co-founders of their nonprofit, Firework Foundation, made the special visit to the store amid the release of the foundation’s new blue raspberry ice cream.

Part of the proceeds from the ice cream sales will go toward the foundation’s annual summer camp, which helps children from low-income families ‘discover their spark through artistic programming.’

While lining up, the sisters were behind a group of young boys who adorablely told them, ‘It’s Katy Perry’s [ice cream].’ Katy slipped the camera on herself and said, ‘I know.’

Completely oblivious to who they were talking to, she continued to tell the boys: ‘Guys, what if I told you it was my ice cream.’

‘You’re Katy Perry? She’s Katy Perry?’ one of the boys hilariously responded before adding, ‘No, you’re not.’

Determined to convince the boys of her identity, the star pulls out her ID: ‘This is my ID, it says Katheryn Hudson which is my real name,’ she explained. ‘That’s me, I’m Katy Perry.’

Her sister joked: ‘Do you believe her now?’

But the kids weren’t convinced and shot back, asking why her last name wasn’t Perry.

‘You know what? It’s fine!’ the defeated star laughed. ‘Just have some ice cream.’

Katy has been making her musical comeback in the past few months following the release of her seventh studio album, 143, which features the single Woman’s World.

Despite her success as a female artist in the 00s with her award-winning 2010 album Teenage Dream and 2013 record Prism, her recent album has failed to impress critics.

Becoming the worst-reviewed album of Katy’s career, 143 explores themes of love, motherhood and feminism and was intended to project Katy’s career back to her 00s prime.

Instead, it debuted at number six on both the US Billboard 200 chart and the UK albums chart. The first single from the album, Woman’s World, peaked at number 63 on the US charts and 47 in the UK.

Katy was also criticised by fans for collaborating with Dr. Luke on the record, as the producer was previously accused by Kesha of raping and drugging her as well as physical and verbal abuse, which he has denied.
