Hollywood stars Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried are joining forces for an adaptation of a bestselling thriller novel, The Housemaid and fans are already excited.
The Housemaid, written by Frieda McFadden, came out in 2022 and rapidly climbed the New York Times, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestseller lists for its psychologically thrilling plot and shocking twists.
The novel has been on the NYT bestsellers list for over a year and has landed on Amazon’s bestsellers list for 98 weeks and counting. As well as selling over 3.6 million copies in English.
Lionsgate has secured the Euphoria star, 27, and Mamma Mia actor, 38, to helm the Hidden Pictures adaptation while A Simple Favour and Bridesmaids filmmaker Paul Feig has come on board as the director.
The whodunnit murder mystery follows recently paroled Millie Calloway (Sydney) who starts her new job as a housemaid at the Winchesters family home working under wealthy power couple Nina (Amanda) and Andrew.
And it’s where she learns ‘the Winchesters’ secrets are far more dangerous than my own.’
The book synopsis reads: ‘Every day I clean the Winchesters’ beautiful house top to bottom. I collect their daughter from school. And I cook a delicious meal for the whole family before heading up to eat alone in my tiny room on the top floor.
‘I try to ignore how Nina makes a mess just to watch me clean it up. How she tells strange lies about her own daughter. And how her husband Andrew seems more broken every day.’
‘I can’t even express how excited I am to announce that #TheHousemaidMovie is coming soon!!! @Lionsgate has come up with the absolute perfect cast and director, and I am just so grateful! I mean, Sydney Sweeney, Amanda Seyfried, and Paul Feig… mind blown!!!!’ the author wrote on her Instagram.
Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group, said of the news: ‘A great filmmaker and a great cast with a great script from a great book is a terrific place to start.
‘My prior work experiences with Paul and Amanda have been nothing short of spectacular, and Sydney is as talented and compelling as can be.’
