An insider has reasserted that Nintendo’s next console will be unveiled this year, following the reveal of an unexpected piece of hardware.

If you needed more proof that Nintendo is one of the most unpredictable companies around, at the height of speculation about their new console they’ve just announced a brand new alarm clock instead.

It might be an excellent act of trolling or mere coincidence, but it comes at a time when various insiders have hyped up this month as being when the successor to the Switch will be revealed. Nintendo has only said the console will be shown before April 1, with no indication of whether it will be this year or next.

Despite the announcement of Alarmo, PH Brazil (real name Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe) has reasserted that Nintendo’s next console will be announced at some point in 2024.

In a new post on Famiboards, following the announcement of Nintendo’s new alarm clock, Lippe wrote: ‘I haven’t heard about the clock today, and I’m still Team 2024.’

Lippe, who has been correct about past Nintendo Direct dates, has said for months that Nintendo’s next console will be shown in October or November before it launches at some point in 2025, which would follow the pattern of the original Switch reveal.

While an alarm clock doesn’t affect the likelihood of a Switch 2 reveal this year, the main argument against 2024 is that it could impact Switch sales this Christmas – especially with games like Super Mario Party Jamboree and Mario & Luigi: Brothership on the horizon.

Some have speculated that an announcement could happen this Thursday, October 10, but that is now looking very unlikely.

Whenever Nintendo decides to show off its next console, anticipation couldn’t be higher. We’ve hit the point where every social media post from Nintendo is being read as a hint towards the next generation, with some now believing a sequel to ARMS could be in the pipeline based on a recently tweeted challenge video.

It is odd, because they haven’t mentioned the game in ages, but there’s really no reason to think there’s any hidden meaning behind it.

Nintendo hasn’t said anything about its next console, or even if it’s called the Switch 2, but some images and technical specifications appeared to leak last month. The console is said to be backwards compatible and comparable in power to the Xbox Series S, with magnetic Joy-Con controllers.

We’ll simply have to wait and see whether Nintendo does announce its next console this year, but with increasingly little of 2024 left if it does happen it will most likely be in the next few weeks.

It’s nearly time for an overhaul (Nintendo)
