TV fans have been raving about a crime drama hailed ‘the best thing DC has ever done on TV by a mile.’

Based on DC Comics character the Penguin, the HBO show named after its lead character, played by Colin Farrell has been a roaring success.

Since debuting on streamers HBO in the US and Now in the UK, the eight-parter has been a hit with viewers, who have branded the drama ‘enthralling.’

The last episode in particular was highly praised by @JohnOjajuni13, who enthused: ‘Man, I gotta say, this was the best hour of television that I’ve watched in a very long time. can’t wait to see where the series takes us #ThePenguin.’

Echoing their sentiment, @chewybuko raved: ‘The Penguin really gets better every episode.’

Viewers have likened his turn as the Penguin to James Gandolfini’s Tony Soprano from The Sopranos, known as one of the best TV performances of all time.

The 48-year-old spoke previously about the comparison to Metro, saying: ‘I’ve only seen two episodes of The Sopranos. But I know, well, I know from those two episodes, I know from Gandolfini’s work and a slew of films through the years – James Gandolfini’s work, that’s fine. That’s totally fine. I mean, God, I’ve been compared to worse in my time.

‘I know that The Sopranos was kind of a turning point in the history of the evolution of television as well, and what was capable in regards to dramatic narrative in television.’

The Penguin is available to watch on Sky Atlantic and NOW, with new episodes released on Mondays.
