Another blow has been dealt to Football Manager fans, as this year’s game suffers its biggest delay yet and SI ask for more time ‘to deliver a game that we can all be proud of’.

Things are going from bad to worse for Sports Interactive and Football Manager, as this year’s game, which was already delayed from early to late November, has been postponed for the second time in a month.

The reason for the initial delay was blamed on moving to the Unity game engine, which studio head Miles Jacobson said has been ‘trickier than we originally anticipated’.

Now the developer comes bearing more bad news, as they’ve had to make ‘the tough decision’ to delay Football Manager 2025 until March 2025.

‘Following discussions with Sega, our licensors and partners, we have agreed the best course of action is to delay the launch until March 2025. Specific platform release dates will follow once confirmed,’ the developer says in a blog post.

It continues: ‘This additional time has not been sufficient to ensure the game quality and experience meets your expectations and our very high standards.

‘Of course, this is not where any of us expected to be seven weeks out from our release but, in the spirit of our studio values, we always consider the bigger picture – and the bigger picture here is that we need this additional time to deliver a game that we can all be proud of.’

The statement also says that fans who have pre-ordered Football Manager 2025 can ask for a refund at their respective retailer.

There were already warning signs that Football Manger 2025 was in trouble, even before the first delay, as many features were axed, including touchline shouts, the data chalkboard, the social media page, and game modes such as create-a-club, versus mode, challenge mode, and the fantasy draft.

When Sports Interactive announced the first delay a month ago, they also revealed that they would be cutting international football as a playable mode.

At that point fans began worrying about the state of the game, with some saying they would skip it. The newly released trailer has also been peppered with 5,500 dislikes, compared to 2,200 likes.

In the space of just over a month, Football Manager 2025 has gone from being delayed by three weeks to four months, which is very unusual for a series that has been released in autumn each year like clockwork.

The delay also introduces another issue which is that, since Football Manager is released every year, the upcoming launch will now only be eight months before Football Manager 2026 comes out – it if tries to go back to the usual schedule.

In conclusion, the statement states: ‘We are intensely aware that this will be massively disappointing for you. We share that disappointment and are extremely sorry.’
