Big Brother housemate Sarah Griffiths needed a moment after accidentally eating the wrong sandwich.

The 27-year-old was naturally upset about eating salami as she is a vegetarian and therefore had no desire to eat meat.

Her reaction to the mistake on Thursday’s episode had viewers offering their sympathies, but also hailing Sarah for helping the series return to its heyday.

The incident occurred during the first holiday-themed shopping task which has divided the house. Their temporary home has been transformed into an all-inclusive holiday resort, with half the housemates running the business, and half enjoying the fruits of their labour.

When worker Sarah took her lunch break in the staff room, she was left unimpressed at the sandwiches on offer.

Sarah’s egg mayonnaise sarnie was not to her liking, so Dean Smith sweetly offered to trade. However his kind gesture didn’t quite work out – Dean handed Sarah what he thought was a cheese filling, but it turned out to be salami.

After realising the error, Sarah gasped and placed her hands on her mouth in shock.

‘Oh my God, I’ve eaten that sandwich,’ she said before running to the diary room.

Dean then said: ‘Oh my God no, I didn’t realise there was meat in it. Oh s**t.’

While chatting to Big Brother in the space away from her fellow housemates, Sarah let out all her feelings.

Sarah explained that she thought it was weird-tasting but assumed it was gluten-free or dairy-free.

‘I didn’t even taste anything but then I opened the second one and there was f*****g salami in it. I’m not even that upset about eating it I’m just more embarrassed,’ she said through tears.

‘I feel like when people watch this they’re going to think like “Oh she ate a f*****g meat sandwich and she couldn’t even tell”.’

Viewers took to X after watching the breakdown to acknowledge that it was an unfortunate situation, but praise Sarah for being entertaining.

‘I feel sorry for Sarah but got to admit I actually laughed out loud so hard when she said she’s not even bothered about eating the meat, it’s the fact she’s embarrassed the public will think she can’t tell a sandwich has meat in it, wrote Beccy B.

Mary added: ‘I think Sarah is slightly annoying but her meltdown in the diary room over the meat sandwich was INCREDIBLY Channel 4 era coded.’ Big Brother aired on Channel 4 between 2000 to 2010, before moving to Channel 5 until 2018. It took a break from our screens before returning last year on ITV.

Sarah has been called ‘iconic’ (Picture: ITV)

Other viewers called the moment ‘iconic’ with the account Teened Tomatoes predicting more.

‘I feel bad for Sarah but my god – this woman’s breakdowns are going to be iconic,’ they summarised.

Josh Cordrey called Sarah ‘unironically funny’, while Sarah added: ‘I’m so sorry but I was laughing when Sarah was crying about the sandwich loool it was just the delivery.’

The first four housemates to face eviction have been revealed (Picture: Channel 4)

Big Brother fans enjoyed another standout moment in an earlier episode –  Lily revealing that her reason for going on the series was to enact revenge on her cheating ex-boyfriend.

Luckily, both women will get to keep providing talking points as they are not facing the series’ first live eviction.

Rosie ‘Baked Potato’ Williams, Dean Smith, Nathan King and Ryan Bradshaw are all facing the public vote. The odds are against Rosie as 20/21 of the first evicted housemates have been women.

Big Brother continues tonight at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX.
