British broadcaster Stephen Fry has shared his thoughts on ‘narcissistic’ Elon Musk, almost two years after leaving X, formerly known as Twitter.

The star, 67, who was once a prolific user of the social media platform, shocked fans when he announced he was leaving in November 2022, just one month after Musk, 53, took over.

At the time, Fry simply shared an image of Scrabble letters spelling ‘Goodbye’, however in a new interview he has revealed his leaving soon after Musk’s takeover wasn’t a coincidence.

Appearing on LBC with Andrew Marr this week, the comedian said he decided to leave the platform ‘because of him [Elon]’ after he started to notice the Tesla owner’s behaviour.

‘I began to see signs of woeful and worrying qualities in this Musk man,’ he said.

‘I saw him veering off into the kind of… self-obsessed inability to take criticism that one sees in Trump, and one knows from certain people when they’re drunk – but not normal people when they’re sober or thoughtful.’

Fry continued to say he thought Musk was ‘going off the rails severely’, adding: ‘it seems he’s gone further and further towards the dark side.’

While the star said he was hesitant to call him a ‘narcissist’ because he isn’t a psychiatrist, but insinuated that is how he feels about the tech giant.

Fans were quick to praise Fry for his words, with one person, Raffles2024, writing: ‘It’s true. Musk is a disturbed individual. Everything Stephen Fry says here is absolutely true. I think a lot of people see that now.’

Eric Okafor added: ‘Everyone can see it now.’

‘Stephen Fry may not be a psychiatrist, but he’s still a great guy,’ Sorentis Milocheckos said.

Commonsense wrote: ‘Stephen Fry is a Legend. A much bigger one than Musk. And he is absolutely right in his assessment. Even though he’s not a psychiatrist.’

Sam Bright said: ‘Stephen Fry describes Elon Musk perfectly here’.

Musk took over the social media platform on October 28, 2022 after offering the board $44 billion for the platform. Upon acquiring it, he quickly renamed it X.

He also replaced the Blue Bird logo and fired multiple top executives, including the then CEO, Parag Agrawal

Following new ownership, many high-profile and prolific users of the social media platform announced they were leaving, including Fry.

Model Gigi Hadid also deactivated her account, stating with new leadership, ‘it’s becoming more and more of cesspool of hate and bigotry, and it’s not a place I want to be a part of.’

Jameela Jamil also left the platform, as did Grey’s Anatomy writer Shonda Rhimes and Sir Elton John

He wrote in his last X post: ‘All my life I’ve tried to use music to bring people together. Yet it saddens me to see how misinformation is now being used to divide our world.

‘I’ve decided to no longer use Twitter, given their recent change in policy which will allow misinformation to flourish unchecked.’
