‘How did this get past quality control?’ fashion fans gasp as Matalan launch £18 jumper with glaring spelling mistake

MATALAN staff have been advised to brush up on their French, after fashion fans spotted a glaring spelling mistake on the front of a new jumper launched by the fast fashion brand.

The faux pas has left people in hysterics, with many wondering how on earth the item ended up on shelves, with no one realising the mistake.

The £18 sweatshirt in question is a grey colour, with the word Paris emblazoned on the front in black and white lettering.

Under the word Paris, is where the glaringly obvious spelling mistake is.

The text is supposed to read the classic French phrase Je T’aime, meaning ‘I Love You’.

However, the designers of the jumper have accidentally put the apostrophe in the wrong place, so it reads Je’Taime instead.

This renders the phrase completely meaningless.

The faux pas has gone viral online, with many social media users in shock at the mistake.

One person said: “How did they manage to get this past quality control?”

Another person said: “Kinda ruins the message doesn’t it!”

A description of the top on the Matalan website reads: “Add a touch of chic to your casual wardrobe with the Grey Paris Sweatshirt.

“This stylish and comfortable sweatshirt combines modern design with cosy fabric, making it a perfect choice for relaxed days and casual outings.”

“The versatile grey hue provides a modern and sophisticated look, easy to pair with various bottoms and accessories.

“Featuring a bold “Paris” graphic on the front, this sweatshirt adds a trendy and fashionable element to your outfit.

“Layer it over a crisp white shirt and pair it with skinny jeans and ankle boots for a casual yet chic look or team it with a flowing maxi skirt and strappy sandals for a bohemian-inspired ensemble.”

WANT to look fabulous this season? Then listen up…

Here, Fabulous’ fashion editor, Clemmie Fieldsend, says these are the top 5 trends from the hottest catwalk designers for autumn 2024.
BOHO: The boho revival is a much needed breath of fresh air for autumn and means you can wear your sheer tops, girly frocks and big jeans with heavy duty boots.
But if the clothes aren’t for you think, big accessories like slouchy tote bags, big earrings and bigger bangles.
TEXTURE: Be it smooth leather, sumptuous faux fur or soft suede, textures are everywhere this season.
They add depth to your look, making you stand out as well as look more expensive.
BURGUNDY: Maroon, oxblood, berry- whatever you choose to call it fashion is seeing red this autumn.
The deep and rich colour is everywhere and works best with greys, black, dark blues and in head-to-toe.
LADY LIKE: Matching top and cardigan sets and pencil skirts sound dated but they go hand-in-hand with lady-like.
Mix with satin cami dresses and waisted blazers for an ultra feminine look.
LEOPARD PRINT: This season 75% of the catwalk was leopard print, according to Tagwalk – a huge majority.
It crawled its way in last season but its rife for autumn and all over the high street, be it shoes or floor sweeping coats, it’s a must have trend.

The faux pas was picked up by reporters at the Daily Star, who highlighted the mistake to the fast fashion brand.

After Matalan became aware of the mistake, they immediately decided to take the tops off the market.

A spokesperson for the brand said: “Oops! Well done to everyone who spotted the typo.

“We’ve taken the product off our website and we’re off to brush up on our French.”
