The Simpsons boss reveals hopes for the final episode and they might not be what you think-Rishma Dosani-Entertainment – Metro

The Simpsons has been on our screens for almost 35 years and the family are showing no signs of slowing down, but TV bosses have already started thinking about how the series could end.

The cartoon premiered in December, 1989, and has become a staple of the small screen, with Homer, Marge and co enjoying countless adventures in that time.

There have also been guest stars galore, including Meryl Streep, Dustin Hoffman, Danny DeVito, Lady Gaga and Michelle Obama – while those behind the scenes have unwittingly predicted everything from Donald Trump’s presidency to the recent 2024 Olympics in Paris.

While it’s hard to think of a time where the gang won’t be causing chaos in Springfield, showrunner and executive producer Matt Selman has shared his hopes for the final episode.

‘I just hope it’s just a regular episode with no Winky Winky stuff at all,’ he said in a new interview.

‘Just a great family story, just like a classic story that’s just funny and involves the whole family and doesn’t feel like it needs to wrap up anything or change anything or tie anything up or be magic or talk to the audience directly.’

Season 36 of the Simpsons premiered last month with the ‘episode fans have been waiting for’, but had a twist for us all when Conan O’Brien gathered everyone for the ‘series finale’.

‘It’s such an honor to be with you all for the series finale of The Simpsons,’ the animated version of the late-night host – who previously wrote for the show – said.

‘I knew I was the right man for the job because I’ve hosted the last episode of three of my own shows and counting… Well, it’s true. Fox has decided to end the Simpsons.’

Thankfully, none of that was true and we’re still a very long way away from the actual series finale.

Matt, who has worked on the animated program since 1997, also declared that they no longer need to make a big song and dance out of the last episode, as the season 36 premiere ‘finale’ took care of that.

‘We did that. We just did that,’ he added to People Magazine. ‘We covered it. Check that off the list.’

In the follow-up episode, which aired last week, the family found themselves at the center of a huge crime while on holiday at the Drooping Dandelions, in a parody of the White Lotus.

They had very little time to relax after Homer brushed up against a dead body while swimming, while Marge did some digging and realized that the resort trip was in fact a scam orchestrated by former realtor Nick Callahan.

Unfortunately for the dodgy salesman, who had reunited with our favorite family after 27 years, his reunion was short-lived and he found himself the victim of another guest…

Al Jean unpacked Springfield’s latest loss to ScreenRant, explaining: ‘We, this past week after the premiere, killed off Nick the Realtor from season 9 in The Yellow Lotus, a White Lotus parody.

‘It’s kind of convenient because you have this thing like The White Lotus where you know someone’s going to die, but it’s not going to be Dr Hibbert, and it’s not going to be Sideshow Bob.

‘So, it is a character – that guy, Nick – but it’s also somebody that’s okay to lose because he hasn’t been on the show for 27 years.’

Poor Nick…

The Simpsons airs on Fox on Sundays.
