Oh, Woody…

Ted Danson has revealed the grim reason that Woody Harrelson would regularly shut down production on Cheers.

The acclaimed sitcom aired for 11 seasons between 1982 and 1993, following the daily lives of the staff and customers at a bar in Boston.

It commanded a star-studded cast including Shelley Long, Rhea Perlman, Kirstie Alley and Kelsey Grammer, who landed his own spin-off, Frasier, shortly after.

Unpacking their time in front of the camera in a new episode of their podcast, Where Everybody Knows Your Name, Ted couldn’t help throwing his co-host – and former castmate – firmly under the bus.

The pair were joined by Simi Liu, who stars opposite Woody in Last Breath, and the Sam Malone star, 76, was quick to question their guest about working in very close quarters.

‘Did you shoot in that chamber where you have to be onboard the ship – what is it called?,’ he questioned about working in a ‘sat chamber’.

Woody, 63, interjected: ‘It wasn’t an actual sat chamber. I mean, it was, but it wasn’t.’

‘It was close quarters, though,’ Ted clarified. ‘There’s a reason why I bring this up. When I worked with Woody, it was a huge sound stage, but his vegetarian farts were so horrible that he would shut down production.

‘I’m just wondering what happened with you.’

Laughing it off, his pal insisted: ‘Excuse me, but it was vegan farts.’

‘Vegan. Sorry, vegan,’ his former colleague conceded. ‘Which gives it an actual pecan.’

‘They were vegan farts to be fair,’ Simi teased, appearing to have a familiarity with Woody’s farts. ‘You were really nice. I think you were really nice about it.’

The Hunger Games actor quipped: ‘That was back when I didn’t chew my food.’

That is a lot more than we ever needed to know about Woody Harrelson’s bodily functions.

This isn’t the first time that a Hollywood legend has sent film sets into meltdown with their farting habits – as Men in Black was once evacuated for three hours because of Will Smith.

Director Barry Sonnenfeld explained that things weren’t running smoothly because of his flatulence…

‘We were getting ready to shoot Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones and Tommy does not suffer fools I’ll tell you that much,’ he said on the Let’s Talk Off Camera podcast, sharing that the pair were locked into a sealed pod as part of their ‘hypercar’.

‘There are locks to prevent it from opening and falling. I say, “Roll camera,” and I hear Will Smith go, “Oh Jesus, so sorry. Tommy, so sorry. Baz, get the ladder.” And you hear Tommy saying, “That’s fine, Will. No worries, Will. Don’t worry, Will.” Anyway, I don’t know what’s gone on, right?

‘So, we race the ladder over, Tommy reaches his leg out as the ladder is coming over, races down the stairs. And what happened was, Will Smith is a farter.

‘It’s just some people are. And you really don’t want to be inside a very small hermetically sealed space with a Will Smith fart. You don’t even want to be sitting next to him at the Disney ranch.’

Barry recalled: ‘We evacuated the stage for about three hours, no he’s a lovely guy – he just farts.’

Good to know…
