We’re sizes 10 & 18 and found the perfect autumn wedding guest dress for £40, we wore it WRONG and it still looks good
SUMMER may be over but wedding season is still upon us.
In fact, more and more brides are choosing to hold their big day in the cooler season with the stunning autumn colours providing a gorgeous backdrop for ceremonies.
Quiz was founded in Glasgow in 1993
Finding a dress for an autumn wedding can be tricky
The dress looked beautiful on both of us
While it may be picture perfect, finding the right outfit to wear is far from foolproof.
But we may have found the ideal dress for a fairytale fall wedding – and the best news is, it’s less than £40.
My work bestie Katy and I are on a mission to scour the supermarkets and high street stores to find the right outfits for every occasion – for every size.
The pair of us regularly turn up in the office in near-identical looks – whether it’s overnight curls or mini dresses and boots – with colleagues often ribbing us for being clothes clones.
I’m a 44-year-old size 10 with a little mum tum that I am very self-conscious about. Meanwhile Katy, 33, is a self confessed ‘booby’ size 18 with curves to kill for.
In a bid to offer up some size-inclusive inspo for the over 30s, we’re testing out the same looks in our two different sizes to see what works – and whether stores really offer something ‘for everybody‘.
While we were shooting our latest fall haul from high street favourite Quiz, we stumbled across a stunning, forest green dress that stunned us both.
Quiz was a total surprise for both of us. I always had in the back of my mind that the store, founded in Glasgow in the 1990s, was a bit young for me.
But they have some brilliant staples – and their occasion-wear is excellent.
We had both chosen a pretty, long floral dress as an evening look – but it was out of stock.
So as a wild card we opted for a bottle green, bardot midi skater dress, which comes in sizes 8 to 22 and is a bargain at just £39.99.
As soon as we pulled it out of the bag, we were both worried – as we realised we’d likely have to go braless.
Something as a 44-year-old mum in my case, and a buxom babe in Katy’s case, does not hold much appeal.
But, we gave it a go – and wow, were we in for a surprise.
This dress is pure class – the colour, the fit, the swirl it gives when you spin, it looks so expensive and miraculously suited both our shapes, hiding all the bits we’re self-conscious about and looked as if it was tailor made for us.
And, given we’d had to ditch the undergarments, it gave incredible support around the chest.
I’d feel pretty comfortable giving it laldy to a Gay Gordons on any wedding dance floor in this get-up.
We realised, however, after we’d filmed the vid that we may have been wearing the dress slightly wrong.
While the model on Quiz’s website wears her sleeves fully off the shoulder, we brought ours up a little, which made us both feel a bit more comfortable.
And that’s just another thing to love about it – it’s really versatile.
With a pair of heels, some chunky earrings and a clutch, this is the perfect pick for any autumn event, whether it’s a wedding or a dinner do – you’ll have everyone green with envy at your look.
