‘Laughably bad.’
A huge sequel which was panned as ‘one of the worst films ever’ has become a surprise success on Netflix, with nearly 13million views.
The Predator was released in 2018, serving as the fourth instalment in the iconic franchise, boasting a star-studded cast including Sterling K Brown, Keegan-Michael Key, Jacob Tremblay, Alfie Allen, Trevante Rhodes and Olivia Munn.
The sci-fi flick, directed by Shane Black, focused on a scientist who teamed up with a group of soldiers to defend the world against invading Predators.
Despite being widely panned by audiences and critics alike, it has found a new lease of life on the streaming platform, and is the second most-watched film globally on the platform, with more than 23,300,000 hours watched, and 12,900,000 total views between October 7 and October 13.
Only the Menendez Brothers, a documentary looking into the case of Erik and Lyle Menendez, who were convicted of the 1989 murders of their parents, has performed better than the sequel for that week, boasting 44.7million hours viewed, and 22.7million views.
However, it does not to be appear on either the UK or US versions of Netflix – instead it is available on Disney+ in the UK, and Hulu in the US.

Although viewers are pressing play in their droves so far, the film didn’t cause a huge splash when it was first released six years ago, with many describing it ‘beyond bad’.
It currently has a critics score of 34% on Rotten Tomatoes, compared to a 32% audience rating – Kevin R claimed to only make an account on the platform to warn others not to watch it.
‘Was that a joke? I literally created that account to tell you not to watch that movie,’ he said.
Robin T fumed: ‘The plot made no sense whatsoever and the predators are now bullet proof. Its lack of coherence made it really boring and predictable. A missed opportunity to make something tense and exciting [sic].’

Stephen M agreed: ‘Hands down one of (probably the) worst movies I’ve ever sat through. Laughably bad.’
‘I’m a huge predator fan, but this is easily one of the worst films I have ever seen, only beaten by AVP 2. There is nothing redeeming about this film worth mentioning,’ Rob L said.
Igor E wrote: ‘This is by far the worst movie of the franchise. A total mistake.’
As Emily S added: ‘I would call this movie trash but trash is better than this.’

The official synopsis to the Predator reads: ‘When a Predator ship crash-lands on Earth, an alien tracker, a secret government agency, a biologist and a group of military castoffs race to find it.’
While fans weren’t exactly kind to Shane’s monster movie, that wasn’t the end of the franchise as Prey was released in 2022, to much better reviews.
Earlier this year, it was confirmed that yet another movie – titled Predator: Badlands – is on the way, with Elle Fanning reportedly in negotiations for a role.
