One of the most iconic horror movies in cinema history is getting another reboot, but this time on the small screen.
The original Carrie film, an adaptation of Stephen King’s legendary novel, was released in 1976, starring Sissy Spacek and Piper Laurie.
It followed the creepy story of high school student Carrie White (Sissy), who is bullied by her peers and suffers abuse from her domineering mother at home.
She develops telekinetic powers and seeks revenge on those who wronged her, leading to a prom night they will never forget.
Nearly 50 years later, Mike Flanagan is set to develop a new TV series based on the book for Amazon Prime.
According to the Hollywood Reporter, he will be adapting the program and also serving as executive producer, alongside his Intrepid Pictures partner, Trevor Macy.

The outlet reports that the studio described Mike’s project as a ‘bold and timely reimagining’ of the original story.
It is not clear when the series will premiere, or who could possibly take on the main role.
This isn’t the first time that Mike has adapted Stephen’s work – he previously worked on the Life of Chuck, as well as the screenplay to Doctor Sleep, a sequel to the Shining.
Coincidentally, the acclaimed author recently gave Doctor Sleep his seal of approval on Twitter over the weekend, describing it as ‘an amazing movie’.

The original Carrie, directed by Brian De Palma, hit our screens almost five decades ago and currently boasts an incredible Rotten Tomatoes critics score of 94%.
Aside from Brian’s efforts, the character was also explored in a 1999 sequel, titled The Rage: Carrie 2 – which didn’t go down as well with reviewers, and commands a 23% score.
Angela Bettis took on the role in a 2002 TV movie, while Chloe Grace Moretz led a star-studded cast in the 2013 movie, alongside Julianne Moore, Judy Greer and Ansel Elgort.
The latest version also left viewers cold, with critics branding it ‘pointless’, ‘flat’ and ‘uninspired’.

During an interview with MTV News, Chloe detailed stepping into Sissy’s shoes for the remake, sharing that she tried her best to make the character her own.
‘I try to strip away all the layers on the publicity side of it, and try to look at it as what it is,’ she said at the time.
‘It’s a beautiful acting piece between a mother and a daughter. It has the really cool aspects of telekinesis.
‘That’s how I judge it and that’s how I look at it as an actress. I try to forget about if we’re going to live up to the expectations of what people are going to want.’
