The new Call Of Duty is out this week but there is a way to play it up to 12 hours early, if you know the trick that works with both consoles and PC.

2024’s new Call Of Duty game is out this week and fans are hoping it’s going to be considerably better than last year’s disappointing Modern Warfare 3.

Black Ops 6 is by developers Treyarch and Raven Software, and the story mode is set during the 1991 Gulf War. Obviously, there’s also the main multiplayer and Zombies mode as well, in what looks to be the most exciting Call Of Duty in several years.

We say ‘looks’ because, apart from a brief beta, there haven’t been any chances to preview the game and, unlike the last few years, the story campaign is not available to play early – not even if you buy the more expensive edition. But there is a way to access the whole game earlier than should be possible…

When does Black Ops 6 come out?

Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 will be released on Friday, October 25 for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.

The standard version costs £69.99, even on PC, while the Vault Edition costs £99.99. As usual with Call Of Duty there’s no real deals at launch and it’s very unlikely it’ll see any substantial Black Friday discounts.

This will also be the first time that a new Call Of Duty game has been available day one on Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, PC Game Pass and Xbox Game Pass for Console – but not the cheaper Game Pass Standard tier.

Black Ops 6 will also be available on a number of different gaming platforms, including Xbox Cloud Gaming and GeForce Now.

How does the New Zealand trick work with Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6?

In order to play Black Ops 6 early, you need to take advantage of a common trick that’s been around for years now and can be used with any game.

It’s based on the fact that the game is released at the same time all around the world, but if you take into account the time difference, then New Zealand, on the other side of the world, technically gets it 12 hours before the UK.

That means that if you can convince your device that you’re actually in New Zealand, even though you’re not, you can start playing Black Ops 6 at 12pm on Thursday, October 24 in the UK.

How to do the Black Ops 6 New Zealand trick on Xbox

Go to the consoles Settings and select System and then Language and Location.

Choose New Zealand as the location and choose Restart Now to reboot your console.

Go to the Call Of Duty website, log into your account and select the Basic Info tab.

Change your address to New Zealand (you can get one from a quick google or by making up just about anything) and click save.

Don’t forget to change the settings back once the game is officially available in the UK, at midnight on Friday morning.

How to do the Black Ops 6 New Zealand trick on PC

The New Zealand trick wasn’t previously necessary on PC, but the game’s launch time has now been locked to Game Pass, so you need to follow the following steps:

Login to your Activision account and go to Basic Info in your account profile.

Change your address to somewhere in New Zealand.

Go to Windows Settings and select the Time and Region option and change your region to New Zealand and your time to Auckland, Wellington.

Restart your PC, so the changes take effect, and then launch the Xbox app and you can start playing on Thursday.

The same trick doesn’t work with other launchers such as Steam, but there’s still a way you can play early, as all you have to do is join a game with someone that’s actually in New Zealand. Although that won’t help you if you want to play the story campaign before Friday.

How to do the Black Ops 6 New Zealand trick on PS5 and PS4

Unfortunately, things aren’t as straightforward for PlayStation consoles. PSN locks your account to a region when you create it, so what fans have done in the past is create a new (free) account with a fake New Zealand address and then buy the game through the country’s PlayStation Store.

It’s not yet clear if that’s going to work this time though, so we’d advise against it unless you’ve got money to burn – especially as the game is being released in separate ‘content packs’ instead of one single download, which is likely to complicate things further.

Of course, there is one other alternative: you could always arrange to go on holiday to New Zealand at this time of year if you’re super keen. 12 hours is enough time to beat the story campaign and brag about it to everyone back home, but you’d really have to be a superfan to do that.
