80s rock star, 68, ‘looking great’ as fans support him after blood cancer diagnosis-Danni Scott-Entertainment – Metro

Positive messages have flooded the most recent post of The Cure icon, Roger O’Donnell, after he revealed he was diagnosed with blood cancer.

The 68-year-old keyboardist revealed last month that he was diagnosed with the disease in September last year, after ignoring symptoms.

Fans were relieved when the Friday I’m In Love star shared some updated snaps, showing he was out and about.

They declared he was ‘looking well’ as Roger promoted artist Queen Kwong, who he met with before her performance in London.

Sharing a photo of the pair on Instagram, Roger wrote: ‘Rarely do I get involved with artists or bands, I know how hard it is and wouldn’t encourage anyone to get into this … there are exceptions and Carré is exceptional and amazing and a natural talent Queen Kwong should be massive.

‘I’ve said it before arena shows in clubs. Tonight in London opening for Dhani you can see her perform. If you’re in town go!!!’

It seemed that Roger, despite his health concerns, did go to the show as he shared a second picture of Carré on stage from the crowd.

Fans were happy to see he was not only up and about but also going to concerts after the shock cancer reveal.

‘Rodger, Absolutely wonderful to see you Both and out and about and you looking healthy! Keep it brother!❤️’ commented Vince Varsalona.

Arian Buck agreed: ‘So great to see you looking healthy and happy!’

‘Roger – great to see you looking well – tonight should be another excellent QK gig and anticipating @queenkwong Carre smashing it as always!!’ wrote Emile.

‘Good to see you smiling and looking healthy and great! 🙏🏼,’ shared Jeff Webber as plenty of other fans left heart emojis in response.

Last month, Roger shared he was ‘diagnosed with a very rare and aggressive form of lymphoma’ in September 2023.

‘I had ignored the symptoms for a few months but finally went for a scan and after surgery the result of the biopsy was devastating,’ he wrote on X.

The musician reassured fans and said his prognosis is ‘amazing’ after he underwent the latest immunotherapy treatment and received ‘second opinions’.

A previous drummer for the band, Andy Anderson, died aged 68 in 2019 after being diagnosed with cancer.

That was the same year The Cure, best known for huge hit Boys Don’t Cry, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Led by Robert Smith, the goth rock band was formed in Crawley, West Sussex, in the 1970s with Roger joining during the 1980s.
