Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden has been rushed to hospital after an ambulance had to be called after Saturday’s show.

The 34-year-old dancing professional was taken to hospital last night after it was reported she felt ‘unwell.

Amy’s spokesperson said: ‘Amy was feeling unwell and so an ambulance was called as a precaution.’

‘She is feeling much better and would like to thank the Strictly family for their love and concern. We request Amy’s privacy in matters of health is kindly respected.’

A spokesperson for the East of England Ambulance Service confirmed that a woman was taken to hospital after the show aired.

‘We were called just after 9pm on Saturday to attend a medical emergency at Elstree Studios in Borehamwood. An ambulance was sent to the scene. One patient, an adult female, was transported to Barnet Hospital for further care.’

During her chemotherapy treatment, the pro dancer kept fans updated on her health.

She has been open about her health struggles, including fertility problems, sepsis, and losing her hair – in BBC documentary Strictly Amy: Cancer and Me.

She has also spoken openly about suffering from a chronic condition, Crohn’s disease, in the past.

Amy told Prima in August that she was thrilled to return to the show ‘Strictly has changed everything, from the opportunities it’s given me – I’ve got to do tours, travel the world, buy a house, open a dance studio – to the people it’s brought into my life… I’ve been in life-or-death situations, so dancing a one-minute-30-second routine for entertainment isn’t quite the same as walking into chemotherapy.’

Amy and JB Gill scored a 32 from the judges on Saturday night with their foxtrot to Dancing In The Moonlight by Toploader.

The high score earned them plenty of praise with judge Anton DuBeke calling the performance ‘super duper’.

The couple have proven a real hit with audiences and judges, but despite topping the leaderboard in week 1, they recently survived a dance-off and avoided going home when Paul Merson and Karen Hauer were eliminated instead.

Strictly Come Dancing results are revealed tonight at 7.20pm
