Netflix appear to have outdone themselves already ahead of the festive season, with a cheesy Christmas film based around a magical snowman with chiselled abs.

Obviously.

What’s more, it stars actress and 00s icon Lacey Chabert, who shot to fame as Gretchen in Mean Girls 20 years ago, opposite Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams and Amanda Seyfried.

Since then, she’s carved a new niche out as the Queen of Hallmark movies, appearing in over 30 of the channel’s films, which are romances with sweet but often formulaic plotlines.

Some of these have naturally also been set at Christmastime too, like The Sweetest Christmas, Pride, Prejudice and Mistletoe, Christmas Waltz and Christmas at Castle Hart.

So it’s a natural fit for Netflix – who have given a platform to her former co-star Lohan too with seasonal rom-coms – to swoop in and grab her for one of their Christmas flicks.

And this one appears to tick all the preposterous boxes required with the usual brand of required schmaltz being sprinkled over a movie where a grieving widow magically brings a hot snowman to life!

Yep, Frosty the Snowman has well and truly been made over from his days of coal eyes, a corncob pipe and a more traditional rounded snowball shape.

And this local snow sculpture just happens to be of a naked man in the classical style with a truly impressive physique.

After Kathy (Chabert) jokingly lends this nude snowman her scarf, she gets a new perspective on life when she meets Jack (Schitt’s Creek’s Dustin Milligan), a good-looking and oddly familiar man.

He causes quite a commotion around town as he clambers on roofs and offers to push cars topless, charming locals with his whimsical and upbeat nature, as well as attracting the ire of Sheriff Robinson (Craig Robinson), who takes his job a little too seriously.

Also in the cast is Brooklyn 99 star Joe Lo Truglio, Katy Mixon and Lauren Holly, as well as a cameo from Selling Sunset’s Christelle Stause.

While the premise of Hot Frosty does sound rather ridiculous, its stars insist it has more of a meaningful and weighty message than you might think.

‘We’re not going to spoil it, but… Kathy’s backstory is something that actually grounds Hot Frosty in a bit more of a nice realistic, dramatic tone. Then, all of this sort of fun, silly stuff occurs afterward,’ Milligan told Netflix’s Tudum

Chabert added: ‘It’s really funny and light and lovely. But there is also a throughline of a lot of heart, and all of these characters are kind of going through something — whether it’s something more comedic or something more deeply emotionally rooted.’

Also, let’s face it, this type of movie is exactly what most Christmas rom-com fans want served to them, and the anticipation is already high.

‘This is EXACTLY what I want, Netflix. EXACTLY,’ posted Jen on X, while Karlita swooned: ‘Ahhhhh omg omg stop November 13th cannot come soon enough.’

‘LESS LOGIC MORE HIMBOS,’ insisted @Aimdiddles as she celebrated the trailer being released, as Jennifer Wadella wrote: ‘Netflix is going hard for the holidays and I’m so excited.’

‘Movie of the Year IDC,’ announced @modytalkmovies , while Angi simply announced: ‘This will heal me.’

Amil jokingly added of Netflix: ‘The Lacey Chabert casting is a direct attack, they’re coming for the Hallmark holiday crown.’

It is joined on Netflix’s festive slate by Meet Me Next Christmas starring Cristina Milian and Pentatonix, Chad Michael Murray in The Merry Gentlemen and Lohan in Our Little Secret.

Following on from Netflix seasonal streaming films Falling for Christmas in 2022 and Irish Wish earlier this year, this time Lohan stars as Avery, who is forced to spend Christmas under the same roof as her ex Logan (Ian Harding), after discovering that their current partners are siblings.

And even better, Hot Frosty even includes a nod to both Falling for Christmas and Mean Girls as Jack is shown watching it at the end of the trailer, only for Chabert-as-Kathy to say: ‘That looks just like a girl I went to high school with.’

Perfection.

Hot Frosty streams exclusively on Netflix from Wednesday, November 13.
