‘I can wear what the hell I want’ fumes cafe boss after being outfit-shamed for ‘inappropriate’ top

A CAFE owner has hit back at trolls who branded her outfit “inappropriate” after a TV appearance.

Kate Carter-Lang, owner of St Andrews eatery The Cheesy Toast Shack, was joined by her husband Sam Larg as they whipped up some mac and cheese on Saturday Kitchen.

But some BBC One viewers were left distracted by the guest chef’s low-cut strapless top paired with jeans and a brown belt.

Taking to X, formerly Twitter, one hater fumed: “She changed into that top to cook?!”

A second wrote: “One guest dressed for summer… has Kate just arrived back from a night out?”

Someone else said: “I can’t concentrate on the show for worrying about her top falling down.

“She’s pulling and tugging it as it keeps slipping.”

A fourth added: “I know… inappropriate dress code.”

And a fifth chimed in: “Wardrobe issues can definitely take attention away from the show itself.

“Hopefully it gets sorted out quickly so everyone, including her, can feel more at ease.”

Mum Kate has since been left in disbelief at the hate her outfit has received.

‘It’s not like I wore a thong and nipple tassels – but that’s how everyone is reacting”, she told The Star.

Kate had bought her new top after booking the TV slot but only tried it on “for five minutes”.

It was only when she was on air that she realised it “kept falling down” and that it was too late to change.

But she has insisted she “felt good” in the outfit and won’t dress to please judgemental strangers.

Speaking to The Courier, she said: “I went for a dark colour and didn’t for one minute think my arms or shoulders would get people’s knickers in such a twist.

“My thought process when I picked the outfit was that I was going on television and BBC1 so I was going to wear something I felt really good in.

“And I did feel really good. And if I did it again I would probably wear the same kind of thing.

“This is 2024 not 1950. I can wear what the hell I want. I am a business owner, I’m a woman. I can wear what I want.

“My husband loves me and couldn’t care if I wore a bin bag or strapless top.”

She added: “You are never going to go back to the people leaving horrible comments and tell them to shut up.

“You can’t argue with stupid, so the best thing is to laugh at them.

Kate has since been inundated with supportive messages from social media users urging her to ignore jealous trolls.

“Someone had the green eyed monster you looked great”, insisted one.

A second echoed: “Good to see you on Saturday Kitchen, ignore the haters. Just jealous.”

Meanwhile, a third wrote: “I mean how dare you be a gorgeous, intelligent woman who runs a successful business!”
