James Corden has revealed the final ever Gavin and Stacey episode will be ‘hard to watch’.

We already know it’s going to be an emotional reunion, with Stacey actress Joanna Page and Gavin actor Mathew Horne joining James, Ruth Jones, Melanie Walters, Larry Lamb, Rob Brydon and Alison Steadman for one last time.

Co-creators Ruth and James announced earlier this year that the beloved BBC sitcom was coming back for a Christmas special after last airing in 2019.

And while the stars have been snapped filming various scenes, the cast and crew have kept filming details a secret with reports claiming they’ve been told to keep their scripts hidden and stay on ‘high alert’ when it comes to leaks.

However, James has dropped a hint at what’s to come, and we’ll have our tissues at the ready!

During an appearance at the Global Gala Gift on Monday, the talk show host, 46, confirmed that it would be an emotional episode.

Fans are already expecting a wedding to take place, but the Smithy actor teased there would also be a funeral.

Though plot details are still being kept tightly under wraps, James reportedly told the audience that he had been editing the show that day, and that the funeral scenes were ‘hard to watch’.

He added, according to Hello!: ‘But was there a funeral? Maybe yes. Maybe no!’

James previously told BBC Breakfast about filming the final episode, saying: ‘It’s lovely, it’s wonderful, all of it, it’s all overwhelming, the fact it’s probably the last time I’ll probably ever be here. ‘All of it, it’s wonderful.’

EastEnders actor Larry also recently echoed James’ comments about the finale, saying it was ‘so emotional’, while his onscreen wife Alison said they were all ‘dreading’ the final scene.

‘I think 90% of us were in tears, some people braved it, because it’s been so fantastic,’ she said, after five weeks of filming.

The fan-favourite show aired for three series between 2007 and 2010 and made a comeback in 2019 for a one-off festive episode which ended on a cliff-hanger when Jones’s character Nessa proposed to Smithy.

It scored the highest overnight Christmas ratings in 12 years, attracting an average audience of 11.6 million viewers, making it the biggest festive special since Christmas Day 2008.

Ruth and James confirmed the final episode was in the works in May, sharing a picture of the script titled: ‘Gavin and Stacey: The finale.’

The final episode of Gavin and Stacey airs on BBC One and iPlayer on Christmas Day.
