The new horror movie Smile 2 has baffled fans as many claim the film went overboard with the intense product placement.
The latest movie in the horror franchise starred Charlie’s Angel’s Naomi Scott, Jack Nicholson’s son Ray Nicholson, and Voss Water – as the water brand made several cameo appearances in the film.
The plot focuses on a famous pop star Skye Riley (played by Scott) who is haunted by a spirit with a menacing smile who torments her using the faces of people around her.
The scary movie has been a box office smash, earning $83.8 million (£64.5 million) worldwide in the first nine days after its release on October 18.
In the film, Skye has been told by her therapist to down a bottle of water to help focus and manage her trauma (following a previous car accident) but this explanation didn’t quite satisfy fans who were still confused as to why Voss bottles were jammed into so many scenes.
‘Smile 2 was literally a long voss water ad,’ said iRezi on X
‘A film that also serves as the longest advert for Voss Water,’ JSmithy64 agreed.

Some even joked that the brand deserved an award for its significant amount of screentime, with others complaining that the product placement ‘went overboard’.
‘VOSS water deserves a Best Supporting Actress nomination for Smile 2,’ Adudeandhisart.
‘Smile 2 was lowkey good yall but the voss being in every scene was so annoying,’ said deadleaved.
Jessymay321 complained directly to Voss Water directly: ‘Y’all went overboard with the product placement on this movie. I’ve never been p****d off from product placement before. Y’all pulled off a personal first in my life. Congratulations.’
‘Smile 2 was f*****g awesome btw, Naomi Scott absolutely killed it. Best Voss water advertisement ever,’ said Agile679.

Despite product placement criticism the movie was still a huge success, with many saying that it was even better than the first in the franchise.
The first Smile movie was a smash hit in 2022 after word-of-mouth success and some high praise from Stephen King.
Kyle Gallner, who played Joel in both films told Metro in 2022 that the film was ‘never supposed to be released in cinemas’ before its $200,000,000 box office success.
‘We weren’t expecting anything! The movie was never supposed to go to theaters. It was made for Paramount+, it was only supposed to be on TV. Then they told us it was going to theaters and we were all excited,’ the Strange Darling actor said.
‘It started taking off and it was pretty wild. You just never know what is going to hit and what will resonate with people these days. Superhero movies are the only sure thing, everything else is a gamble.
‘The only thing that’s a really safe bet anymore, other than superhero movies, is horror.’
