Singer Amelia Lily has announced her engagement to Eddie McQueen, son of late Scottish footballer Gordon McQueen.

The 30-year-old – who captured the nation’s attention as a contestant on the eighth series of The X Factor in 2011 – took to social media on Thursday evening to reveal the exciting news.

Lily is remembered for her part in one of the most famous moments in The X Factor history, when she was voted back onto the show after her elimination as a replacement for Frankie Cocozza, who broke competition rules and had to be removed.

After reaching the final and finishing in third place behind Marcus Collins and Little Mix, she scored a hit single with You Bring Me Joy.

She then joined the cast of Geordie Shore in 2020 and has also appeared on Celebrity Big Brother.

McQueen is the son of Scottish footballer Gordon McQueen, who died in 2023. He played as a centre-back for St Mirren, Leeds United and Manchester United, in addition to the Scotland national team.

He married Yvonne Gordon with whom he had two daughters, Hayley and Anna, as well as his son.

Announcing the news of her engagement on Instagram, Lily wrote, ‘MRS MCQUEEN TO BE!’ alongside a snap of her and her fiance.

Plenty of fans and famous peers took to the comments to congratulate the couple, including Geordie Shore legend Vicky Pattison, who recently tied the knot herself with long-term partner Ercan Ramadan.

She wrote: ‘Congratulations gorgeous girl.’

Amelia’s older brother is West End star Lewis Bradley – who came third on the BBC’s 2007 talent show Any Dream Will Do – and he was also thrilled at the news, writing: ‘Eeeeeee darl!!! So happy for you both! Perfect match.’

Sky Sports News presenter Hayley McQueen, Eddie’s sister, welcomed the reality star to the family, commenting: ‘Can’t tell you how excited we all are. Welcome to the family! The best news ever xx’

Lily recently paid tribute to her now-fiance in an anniversary post on Instagram, gushing: ‘Happy Anniversary to my absolute soul mate! My ride or die, the love of my life. Eddie you are literally a legend, my legend.

‘You are the best thing that ever happened to me, I feel like we’ve been together about 10 years (in a good way).’

She added: ‘Thank you for constantly making me laugh endless amounts and making me the happiest I’ve felt in a long time. You’re my best friend and I’m so lucky to have you. I can’t wait to celebrate with you tomorrow. Love you always big guy.’

Lily previously spoke with Metro about the massive impact The X Factor has had on her life, saying: ‘There have been a lot of people in the system over the years, and we’ve all heard about these stories, they didn’t have a great time on the show and unfortunately, everyone goes through different experiences on the show.

‘I got knocked out week one then got brought back four weeks later and that had never happened. I was forever known as the comeback kid with pink hair.

‘But my time on the show, because of reasons like that, because I got kicked out, which was brutal for any 16-year-old, and to get brought back and show the nation why I deserved to be there, of course it’s made me who I am today.’

Now, as the singer embarks on this new phase of her life, she’ll surely bring her past experiences along.
