Horror fans are completely baffled as it’s revealed that Orphan 3 will see Isabelle Furhman return to the role of Esther.

In 2009, the horror flick Orphan left viewers with the heebie-jeebies and was an enormous success earning $78.8 million (£60.7 million) at the box office against a $20 million (£15.33 million) budget.

The popular fright-fest was about a sweet 9-year-old Russian orphan named Esther who was adopted by a loving family in the US.

Unfortunately for the family, Esther looked like a child because of a hormonal disorder, but was in fact a 31-year-old patient from a mental hospital who was determined to kill.

In 2022, a prequel titled Orphan First Kill was released and the now 25-year-old Fuhrman who starred in the original film when she was just 12, was once again cast to play a child.

Although the second film in the franchise was a success, some felt that casting someone in her twenties to play a child didn’t quite work.

As it’s announced that the star will be returning to the same role, once again fans are questioning how the producers of this film will make the adult plausibly look like a child.

Taking to X, several horror fans expressed confusion about the actress returning to play the character.

‘Ngl I was being nice during Orphan 2 there is no way she can do orphan 3 like let’s start telling the truth,’ cold_cashdivinecommented.

Jim_Shewss added ‘She’s only like 40 now 😂😂😂😂’

‘She is almost 28 if this is another prequel or between the first two movies that is crazy. They just need to write that she survived the first movie and someone pulled her outta the lake when she floating down or she got out herself,’ AnimeEyesKM suggestsed.

Others got a bit muddled about what this means for the franchise: ‘The actress Isabelle Fuhrman is 27 years old. so she is basically an adult pretending to be a child pretending to be an adult.

‘She’s gonna be an actual old woman and they’ll still be making these movies lol,’ joked GamerxShift.

Despite a fair amount of confusion, many horror fans commented that Isabelle was essential to the role and the only actress who could play Esther.

DaaChazz commented on X: ‘She the only one who can play that role.’

Others joked that they didn’t care how old she got, they’d be willing to see her act in this role.

‘I’m fully in support of Isabelle Fuhrman at 50 years old playing Esther in the Orphan (2049) re-quel. Let’s keep this going as long as possible,’ Hennytwote commented.

Mudbuckle also commented: ‘Popping bottles for orphan 3 idgaf isabelle fuhrman can play Esther til she’s 73.’

The actress has previously revealed that she was able to step back into the role because of the use of prosthetics, camera trickery, and lighting.

She told Metro: ‘We did a camera test in Los Angeles before deciding whether or not I’d be able to come back where we tried prosthetics and different lighting set-ups and different tricks to make me look smaller and it was really that that sold every one.

‘For me, it was a no-brainer. I was really excited to revisit this role and the script was just so good too.’

When asked if she took any convincing to return to the role, Isabelle explained: ‘I think it [was more] me convincing the studio I could do it.

‘You think about it – it’s a pretty big age gap. I was 10 when I filmed the first one to 23 when we filmed this one two years ago. I remember, as much as I was sure and wanted to come back and do it, that there were even moments where I was doubting whether or not we would be to make it happen.’
