Band reunions are everywhere at the moment from Oasis to the Scissor Sisters but one 90s group won’t be making up any time soon.

Fans of Savage Garden shouldn’t hold their breath as frontman Darren Hayes gave a cutting response when asked about a potential return.

The I Want You duo split in 2001 after a fallout between the now 52-year-old singer and guitarist Daniel Jones, 51.

They had a string of hit songs in the 90s, including number ones To the Moon and Back, Truly Madly Deeply, and I Knew I Loved You.

While appearing on Australian radio show Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren, Darren said the pair’s relationship is now incredibly distant.

As Jase asked about a potential reunion, the Universe singer interjected and said: ‘I’ll just stop you there: NO.’

Darren explained: ‘I’m a fan and I have those same connections to the artists that I love, so I get it.

‘I’ve never stopped singing the songs. I don’t know that the general public ever knew that because the break-up of the band was just so messy.’

The duo are no longer on speaking terms, which Darren explores more in his upcoming memoir Unlovable along with his rapid rise to fame.

He shared: ‘He was incredibly unkind to me, and he didn’t tell the truth when the band broke up and I got blamed for it.’

Darren claimed his former bandmate has reached out ‘several times’ to make amends with an ‘on the record’ apology.

Savage Garden released their debut single I Want You in 1996, which peaked at number four on the Australian charts.

Truly Madly Deeply was their third single released and landed them a number one spot, becoming their signature track.

Weeks after, their debut self-titled album was released and secured the duo 19 non consecutive weeks at the top of the Aussie charts.

Daniel reportedly wanted to leave the band before the release of their second album but was convinced to stay for the tour.

However, in a press conference after Savage Garden’s statement, the guitarist claimed he had been blindsided by the breakup and that he had not been consulted.

This tore the already tense friendship into a huge rift, in what the singer has since described as a ‘rug-pull’ moment of ‘betrayal’.

Darren said he would not be keen to rekindle any friendship now, after ‘behind the scenes’ stuff has built up resentment.
