Are you any more tempted to get a PS5 Pro now? (Sony)

After only a week on the market, multiple UK retailers are selling the PS5 Pro at a lower price than it’s supposed to be.

While plenty of PlayStation owners scoffed at the price of the PS5 ProSony’s new and more powerful iteration of the PlayStation 5 – that didn’t seem to matter to hardcore fans, who want the most powerful hardware available.

The PS5 Pro launched on November 7, and Sony has suggested the high asking price hasn’t hurt the console’s sales at all. In fact, it’s believed to already be selling faster than the PS4 Pro.

And yet the PS5 Pro has been hit with a price cut just one week after launch. Not officially via Sony, but at a couple of UK retailers and in time for Black Friday on November 29.

At Argos and EE, the PS5 Pro is currently going for roughly £659, which is £40 less than the usual asking price of £699.99. This still makes the console rather expensive, but anyone who was on the fence about buying one may be more tempted to grab it now.

For the record, we checked other UK retailers to see if anywhere else is offering similar reductions. At the moment, Argos and EE are the only ones.

PS5 Pro – £659 – EE

It’s unclear why the PS5 Pro has already seen a price cut, and only at these two retailers. It had previously been suggested, by fans, that the console wasn’t selling particularly well, considering even scalpers were having a hard time pushing them, so Argos and EE could be disappointed by the sales too.

Aside from contradicting what Sony said, it’s important to remember that the PS5 Pro is a deliberately niche product meant to target a specific audience. Even the PS4 Pro reportedly only accounted for around 12% of the PlayStation 4’s lifetime sales, so the PS5 Pro isn’t expected to be a super popular item that routinely sells out.

So, should you expect other retailers to follow suit? It’s hard to say, but with Black Friday coming up it’s likely that other websites will at least try to match the £660 price tag or perhaps add in some games for an unofficial hardware bundle.

There’s no guarantee that the price cut will survive into December and beyond though, so if you want a PS5 Pro this year now might be the time to make your move.
