Netflix series Cobra Kai is flying towards the finish line, with season 6 part 2 leaving fans ‘shaking’ after a shocking mid-season finale.

The martial arts drama-comedy series, which started back in 2018, has become a huge success for the streaming giant after originally starting as a YouTube production.

Set 34 years after the events of The Karate Kid, Cobra Kai looks at the 1984 film from the perspective of Johnny Lawrence (William Zabka) and follows his decision to reopen the titular karate dojo.

It also follows his decision to rekindle his old rivalry with Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio, with the two eventually patching up their old relationship.

After it was announced earlier this year that the sixth and final season of the series would be released in three parts, the first third was released back in July.

With the final group of five episodes set to be unveiled in February, fans have been left ‘shaking’ by the middle portion of season six that dropped on Friday morning – two weeks earlier than originally planned.

In the season six part two finale, an unexpected and tragic death occurs, with Kwon Jae-Sung (Brandon Lee) accidentally stabbing himself during a brawl.

The episode ended with Kwon dead on the floor, with the future of Cobra Kai uncertain – and fans were completely caught off guard by the events.

On X, @ItzPerka said: ‘That was probably one of the best collections of episodes ever! And episode 10 was absolutely insane!’, adding that they were ‘shaking right now!’

Meanwhile, @RichVong said they couldn’t wait three more months: ‘That ending was dark dark. My face will be staying like this [in shock] till Part 3 comes out.’

@CaridaeZorales paid respect to the deceased karate fighter: ‘Damn that was a dark ending for Cobra Kai season 6 part 2. RIP Kwon.’

However, not everyone was happy with how things turned out, with some users on Reddit expressing discontent at the direction of the final season.

@GreatWhiteShark07 said: ‘They spent an entire season and a half building up to a tournament that we don’t get to see the end of… Even if they finish it in Part 3, it will feel kinda useless now that they killed off the finalist.

‘Our semi final and final were sacrificed for what? A brawl between a bunch of people literally no one cares about,’ adding that in their opinion, it felt ‘goofy’.

@LightningStrikeDust concurred: ‘Cobra Kai is so, so very different from its season one and two versions. Remember when the stakes were low and the show felt personal? When I inevitably rewatch the entire series, that shift is going to hit like a truck all over again.’

But while the season might have divided fans, what’s certain is that everyone is eager to see how the story concludes, with the final five episodes available from February 13, 2025.
