Great British Bake Off viewers were livid last night as favourite Gill Howard was sent home, with many saying she was ‘robbed’ of a place in the final.

Christiaan de Vries,  Dylan Bachelet and Georgie Grasso were sent through by judges Prue Leith, 84, and Paul Hollywood, 58, which left a bitter taste in many fans’ mouths.

Star baker was Christiaan, with the judges explaining their decision to oust Gill was because she hadn’t pushed herself far enough.

Nevertheless, viewers were shocked at the decision, as Dylan even admitted his signature challenge was one of the ‘worst’ bakes he’d ever done on the show.

Georgie didn’t handle the pressure very well either, and was even close to quitting after her Jaconde sponge flopped in the technical challenge.

Meanwhile, Gill soldiered on, with some fans even saying she was in the running for the star baker title that week – before she got dumped from the tent.

‘I’m sorry but I don’t think Gill deserved to go home in the slightest, Georgie should have gone home,’ said @JoycelynSmith93.

Lots of people agreed Gill was robbed, as @Lialvvzs said, ‘Gill was robbed,’ while @SamStanier3 and @SimRocket posted exactly the same reaction.

‘Fuming that Gill got sent home. Especially after Georgie’s tantrum,’ added @trackerb100.

@evyfrances said: ‘Glad everyone else is just as confused as to why Gill left justice for Gill (also what a lovely lady).’

‘Gill deserved better, GBBO is biassed,’ said @flop__05, as @tamimaaah_ said: ‘As much as I’m happy with the bake-off finalists, i feel bad for Gill.’

‘She did sooo well this week I thought she’d be in line for star baker! So sad for Gill didn’t deserve to go so gracious in defeat as Well done lovely you were robbed,’ wrote @Barbaraboyles2.

Others called for justice, as @DavefromTw1tter wrote, ‘Justice for Gill,’ while @ClaudiaRwalker said: ‘Justice for Gill! Georgie absolutely should’ve been on her way this week.’

Gill herself seemed to take the dumping with grace, as she wrote in her parting letter: ‘What a glorious experience that was! I enjoyed every moment with a bunch of fabulous bakers. I learnt such a lot from them. Never did I expect to make eleven new friends in my 50s.

‘I was so far out of my comfort zone, technical definitely brought back my exam panic, apparently you never grow out of that!

‘I have been fortunate to have wonderful family and friends. All my bakes have been dedicated to special people and fond memories, revisiting these was a joy I did not anticipate.

‘I have to mention my wonderful (and annoying!) husband Steve. Without his support I would not have been as successful, both in the tent and life itself.

‘To my sister V, thank you for encouraging me to apply when I never would.

‘Also huge thanks to all the production team who couldn’t do enough to help and support. Life in the tent is as lovely as it appears.

‘I have no idea where this experience will take me next, but I am looking forward to finding out. Bye for now my giddy kippers. Take care, Gill.’

The Great British Bake Off final airs next Tuesday on Channel 4 at 8pm.
