A 90s TV show once labelled ‘the best animated series Marvel has ever produced’ has marked a momentous occasion.

Spider-Man, also known as Spider-Man: The Animated Series, was based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name and aired in the Fox Kids Network from 1994 until 1998.

Running for five seasons, it followed Peter Parker (voiced by Christopher Daniel Barnes), a college student struggling to balance his commitments of his personal life alongside being a superhero.

Along the way he faced various foes that put New York City at risk including Doctor Octopus, the Green Goblin and Venom, however at times was assisted by other superheroes including the X-Men, Doctor Strange, Iron Man, Captain America, and the Fantastic Four.

The series finale also introduced the famous ‘Spider-Verse’ storyline, which went on to inspire several comics, cartoons and films in the noughties.

It was a hit with critics and viewers alike, with People magazine going so far as to label it one of the best animated comic book adaptions of all time. The series also holds a 100% rating on review site Rotten Tomatoes.

It’s now been 30 years since the show first hit screens, with fans relieving their love of it when remembering the milestone.

‘I was so excited for this show on, and it delivered every Saturday morning,’ user WorgRider posted on X.

‘One of my absolute favourite animated series of all times, the finale of that series was the best ending to Spider-Man’s story in my opinion, Christopher Daniel Barnes was great as Spidey & Peter,’ Mohammad shared.

‘I know this show is older than me but 30 is still so crazy I remember watching it on TV,’ Kam added.

Earlier this year Christopher, who also voiced Prince Eric in 1989’s The Little Mermaid and played Greg Brady in two Brady Bunch movies in the 90s, addressed rumours of a Spider Man revival.

Following the success of the X-Men ’97 series on Disney Plus, the actor weighed in on calls for his show to return too.

‘Hey everyone! I just wanted to say thanks for all of the positivity and support surrounding the idea of a Spider-Man 98 revival!’ he posted on X.

‘I’d obviously love to participate in such an awesome venture! Unfortunately, I haven’t been contacted by anyone regarding this possibility, and I also currently have no connection to the X-Men 97′ show.’

However, he went on to say he was hopeful he’d get ‘that magical phone call, have to sign a NDA and then go weirdly silent on the issue’.
