As speculation around Glastonbury Festival 2025 intensifies, rumours have begun swirling that a certain British band might be set to headline on the first night of the festival.

The 1975 is a group comprised of frontman Matty Healy along with Ross MacDonald, Adam Hann and George Daniel.

Since forming in 2002 and coming to prominence in 2012, the band has had huge success with tunes such as About You, Somebody Else, Chocolate and Sex.

They have played at the iconic British festival on three occasions, and it has now been rumoured that the band is set to headline the festival on Friday night.

‘Matty and his bandmates are more than ready to play the Pyramid Stage and they are available.

‘Festival organiser Emily Eavis has long wanted The 1975 on board, but they couldn’t make it work last year,’ a source told The Sun.

‘They are being lined up for the Friday slot at the moment, and all the signs are really positive.’

The group first performed at the festival in 2013 on the Pyramid Stage.

In 2014 they played on the Pyramid stage again and then in 2016, they performed on the Other Stage.

In 2013, when The 1975 was starting out, Matty revealed that headlining the festival on the Pyramid stage was the band’s ultimate goal.

‘Headlining Glastonbury? Now we’ve started, you might as well reach for the sky and the mountain tops, he said. ‘I just want people to feel about our records the same way records made me feel.’

There are many other rumours flying about who might headline this iconic festival before the farm needs a fallow year for the land to repair.

Harry Styles is another name being mentioned in relation to the festival, with reports that the Glastonbury co-organiser Emily Eavis has been keen to get the singer to headline the festival before but has been unsuccessful because of a conflict in timings.

The source told The Sun: Harry would be an incredible act to watch on the Pyramid Stage. Glastonbury has a fallow year in 2026, so booking Harry for next year would be perfect.

‘It is something the team at Glastonbury are pushing for. Whether that dream will come true, however, is still to be decided by Harry’s team.’

Other acts rumoured to perform include Ed Sheeran, Olivia Rodrigo, Eminem, Fred Again, Olivia Rodrigo, Rihanna and Stevie Wonder.

The 2024 headliners included Dua Lipa, Coldplay, and Sza and in 2023 itt was Arctic Monkeys, Guns N’ Roses, and Elton John.
