The screenwriter for Netflix biggest new Christmas movie actually had an eerie prediction that it would be a huge success – before he even wrote it.
Hot Frosty landed on the streaming platform last week, with Mean Girls icon Lacey Chabert leading the cast as young widow Kathy, who brings a handsome snowman – played by Schitt’s Creek’s Dustin Milligan – to life, and falls madly in love.
However, temperatures rise figuratively and literally, meaning their romance could get cut short as Jack is at risk of melting…
It’s no surprise that everyone has been raving about the new film as it came from the mind of Russell Hainline, who was behind Hallmark classics The Santa Summit and In Merry Measure.
Taking to Twitter, he revealed that he actually predicted it would be an instant classic more than three years ago.
He quote-tweeted a post he shared on September 26, 2021, he wrote: ‘Just had the best idea for a Hallmark Christmas movie holy s**t holy s**t holy s**t.’

Quoting his own tweet days after his movie debuted on Netflix, he yelled: ‘HAHAHAHAHAHAHA THIS WAS ABOUT HOT FROSTY.’
Fans are clearly loving the festive flick as it jetted straight into Netflix’s global chart, with more than 24million hours watched in just a few days – and more than 16million views in total.
It beat out Meet Me Next Christmas, Don’t Move, Focus, The Lost City and Minions: The Rise of Gru to claim the top spot.

Hot Frosty also has a whopping 82% critics score on Rotten Tomatoes, which is a higher rating than festive hits including Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street, Love Actually and the Holiday.
Not too shabby.
Dustin previously opened up about his efforts as the newly-humanized snowman, sharing his hopes that everyone understands and loves Jack’s ‘whimsy’.
‘The whole world is brand-new to him,’ he told Tudum. ‘It’s refreshing – especially around Christmastime – to experience the magic and the wonder of that season through Jack.

‘He is seeing things for the very first time and experiencing them with a very trustworthy guide.
‘Jack’s innocence and newness to the world really opens up Kathy’s heart again, to seeing the world with a little bit more of a childlike perspective,’ Lacey agreed. ‘Kathy is dealing with overcoming grief and that she really needs to find the fun in life again.
‘Jack really brings that to life for her.’
Hot Frosty is available to stream on Netflix now.
