Fiji said hello to guest Leonardo DiCaprio with nothing but love and kindess this week, but the actor’s reaction has left many upset.

The Hollywood heavyweight, 50, was spotted leaving his hotel on the tropical island this week after a relaxing stay. As staff came together to perform a traditional song, it seemed the actor all but ignored it.

In a short clip posted on the social media platform, TikTok, DiCaprio was seen wearing a dark cap, tracksuit, and sunglasses as he walked through the hotel foyer, where a group of people were performing a song and dance seemingly for him.

Where many would stop and admire or thank the group for their act of kindness, the famed star appeared to take a phone call and quickly walked out of the foyer, where he got into a van that was waiting for him.

Many app users took to the comment section of the video shared by Fiji Village to express their disgruntlement with his lack of acknowledgement of the group.

Hunterle1gh wrote: ‘Don’t waste your energy my fiji whānau, he’s so disrespectful omg,’ while Ebapaita Lokaloka added: ‘Leonardo should have acknowledged the welcoming party’.

‘Ohhh what a snob. At least he should have acknowledged the welcome by our country. No place like Fiji,’ Passionate Woman wrote.

Meanwhile, other viewers began speculating that the actor had not received a phone call at all but was faking one to avoid interactions with the group.

Boost Goose commented: ‘Old phone trick aye!’. Magpi 95 agreed, adding: ‘You know nobody was on that phone’.

‘Haha, the old “fake call” act. Gets in the car, drops the phone. 😂😂😂 Nice!’ Scott Moore wrote under the video.

Elsewhere in the comments, some fans defended the actor’s actions with Amini Naituyaga writing that it may have been his first time in Fiji: ‘Just let him be’.

Antonio suggested that perhaps the star was trying to holiday unnoticed: ‘Maybe he was going incognito’ they wrote.

Sam Xerox commented plainly and simply: ‘Just leave him alone’.

It’s unclear whether DiCaprio was arriving or leaving the country, but comes just two weeks after he celebrated his 50th birthday with a private party at his Los Angeles estate.

The screen titan celebrated with the likes of Brad Pitt, Paris Hilton, Katy Perry and her fiancé, Orlando Bloom, Dr. Dre and Steven Spielberg, among many other A-listers.

Page Six reported at the time that the party was not only exclusive to 500 guests but also extremely private, with measures taken to ensure pictures were not taken at the event.

According to the news outlet, attendees were instructed to cover the cameras on their phones with stickers from Hollywood’s most exclusive members club, San Vicente Bungalows.

A source said: ‘The night kicked off with an intimate dinner catered by Nobu,’ and that ‘the scene was nothing short of star-studded’ as the actor was joined by many of his well-known pals.

His security measures appear to have worked as well, as no photos or videos taken at the party have been leaked online. Despite this, there were plenty of paparazzi pictures capturing the celebrities’ comings and goings.

Metro has contacted Leonardo DiCaprio’s reps for comment.
