Strictly Come Dancing star Dianne Buswell was left in tears after her parents saw her perform on the show for the first time in seven years.

The professional dancer, 34, joined the BBC series in 2017 after competing on Dancing with the Stars in Australia.

She is currently competing on this season with comedian Chris McCausland, 47, with Dianne left sobbing following their performance in Blackpool last weekend.

Last year Dianne’s parents, Mark and Rina, were meant to travel from Australia to watch their daughter on the BBC series however had to cancel the trip after he was diagnosed with cancer and then underwent chemotherapy.

However, this year they’ve made the journey over, managing to see their daughter in the competition at the same time too.

On tonight’s episode Dianne and Chris performed a Paso Doble, with the pro dancer revealing she ‘really wanted to get to this moment’.

In the pre-recorded segment before their dance Dianne said the last time her parents had seen her perform on the show was during her first year in the line-up.

‘You blow us away every single week. To be here for this moment is pretty special,’ her mum said as Dianne broke down in tears.

However, after admitting he barely knew the different between many of the dances, Mark hilariously quipped the reason for his lack of knowledge: ‘I was too busy working and paying for lessons!’

But following their dance, he could be seen sobbing.

‘Mark is crying – don’t make me cry Mark!’ host Tess Daly declared.

When handing out her feedback, judge Motsi Mabuse also shared: ‘I know how it feels when your parents are far away and they can’t see you and it’s such a different feeling when they are sitting there.’

Meanwhile host Claudia Winkleman also broke down in tears herself when speaking about Dianne being reunited with her parents.

Watching on from home, many viewers were also left touched by the sweet moment.

‘How lovely to watch Dianne’s parents getting so emotional watching her dancing,’ presenter Dan Walker posted on X.

‘Sooo happy for Dianne that her Parents have FINALLY got to see her Dance on Strictly after such a long time and that they got to meet Chris in the week and now got to see their Paso Doble, what an emotional day for Dianne and how moving for Chris too,’ Faizal shared.

‘Dianne’s dad crying in the audience 🥲 I’m so glad she’s got far enough for her parents to see her dance,’ Liv added.

The couple were eventually awarded a score of 33 from the judging panel, which also includes Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood and Anton Du Beke.

When first revealing her dad was unwell, Dianne said she was heartbroken to be so far away from her family.

‘Being away from home and not being able to support and help your family in a time of need is quite a difficult thing so I did struggle a little bit last week in terms of that,’ she shared last year.

Strictly Come Dancing continues tomorrow at 7.20pm on BBC One.
