The winner of The Great British Bake Off 2024 has officially been confirmed after another exciting final.
The fifteenth series of the Channel 4 show concluded tonight, on November 26, with Christiaan de Vries, Dylan Bachelet and Georgie Grasso baking in the tent for a final time.
The final episode saw the trio attempt to make scones, lemon cakes, and finally, an elaborate hanging three-tier celebration cake for their showstopper.
10 weeks of being judged by Dame Prue Leith and Paul Hollywood with hosts Noel Fielding and Alison Hammond watching on, all lead to this moment with Georgie taking the crown. She made history as not only the first Welsh person to win, but the first to reach the final.
She called her last floral-themed cake ‘the most challenging bake I’ve ever done’ but definitely paid off.
Upon winning, she visibly taken aback but relished in her moment at the finale garden party.
‘I can’t believe that I’ve won the Great British Bake Off,’ the 34-year-old children’s nurse said.
‘It just means everything. I’ve always been so self-doubtful. I put all the hours into it. I’m so proud. I’ve proved to myself I can do something.’
Earlier, she had promised Paul she’d roll down the hill if she won, and much to his joy, she stayed true to her word.
Rather than doing the show for a huge cash prize, the bakers do it for the love of the craft. Georgie walks away with flowers and a cake stand, but also pride at their achievement.
She will be taking them home to her farmhouse in Carmarthenshire, which she shares with her husband, three children, ten chickens, five ducks, two dogs and a cat.
Georgie, Christiaan, 34, and Dylan, 20, all tested themselves to the limit in their final hours on the show after 49-year-old Alison’s warning: ‘This is the bake between winning or losing.’
Dylan is last to finish with his biggest competitor becoming the clock. As Christiaan and Georgie are putting the finishing touches on their cakes, he is still taking his genoise sponges out the oven.
‘I still have a whole cake I need to crumb-coat and layer. I’m not going to get everything I want done,’ he stressed. As always, he eventually managed to pull it off, and while he may not have won the show, he’s now got a job ina Michelin-starred restaurant.
Not only did the three bakers do themselves proud but, luckily, Alison managed to stay upright for the entirety of the final.
The Great British Bake Off is available to watch on Channel 4
