Squid Game viewers are waiting with baited breath for season 2 after the official trailer appeared to reveal a huge spoiler.

While Netflix’s Korean drama follows player Seong Gi-hun’s (Lee Jung-jae) bold decision to return to the deadly games, it is another character that hasgrabbed viewers’ attentions in the clip.

They are convinced that Choi Seung-Hyun, aka lead rapper TOP from K-Pop band Big Bang, will be unveiled as the show’s ‘villain’ afterr catching a meancing glimpse of him in the trailer.

On YouTube, user @shinshow6238 explained: ‘So the detective survive, gi hun trying to sabotage the game from the inside, TOP being a psychopath is something that i didnt expect.

Elaborating further, @nomomania6827 pointed out: ‘TOP has a history of playing villain roles, Squid Games S2 will not be his first go around as such. He played villain role as “Vick” in Kdrama series IRIS back in 2009, which btw was an awesome series.

@adventurealways raved: ‘Can’t wait for TOP to be an absolute MENACE. LETS GOOO.’

Echoing their sentiment, @itiswhatitis4144 stated: ‘So it’s confirmed, TOP is a villain. Can’t wait!’

@ashwolfgang3894 added: ‘I bet that TOP is gonna be like the joker which is wonderful.’

In the trailer, Seong Gi-hun is back in the games with a new batch of players who are willing to sacrifice their lives for a chance to win a huge cash prize, serving as a commentary about the desperate state of wealth inequality in Korea.

However, this time around Seong Gi-hun has another motive: he wants to infiltrate the system to bring down the powers who orchestrate the games in the first place.

‘I’m trying to put an end to this game,’ he is heard saying in the clip.

But his mission is not without serious obstacles, as the trailer teases in-fighting among the players and a blood-thirsty revolution, with the outcome of Seong Gi-hun’s noble quest unclear.

The dystopian drama’s creator, Hwang Dong-hyuk, recently shared with Metro what viewers can expect from season 2.

Speaking about whether the violence – used a metaphor – would be as shocking as the first he it was ‘difficult for him to say’.

The second instalment of Squid Game is released on Boxing Day (Picture: Netflix / YouTube)

‘Because these games run on the same rules that when you’re eliminated from the game, you are shot to death, I think that the level of violence, in terms of the way the deaths are depicted, it’s going to be a similar level, because them being shot to their deaths is a metaphor for what happens to those that lose in the game, in society,’ the 53-year-old said.

‘So again, it’s hard to say as creator whether it’s going to be even more or less brutal. I would say it’s going to be up to the viewers, for them to decide. But I did not have any creative intentions to make it even more violent or more brutal.’

Squid Game season 2 comes to Netflix on Boxing Day.
