Strictly Come Dancing star Pete Wicks has revealed he’s been receiving death threats.

The former Towie star, 35, is competing on the current season of the long-running BBC series alongside Jowita Przystał.

Despite making it through to the top six, he’s frequently found himself towards the bottom end of the leaderboard, with some questioning how he’d made it this far.

Now Pete has spoken about some viewers being so unimpressed by the fact he’s still in the running for the Glitterball Trophy they’ve made shocking comments about his safety.

‘I’ve also had some death threats, which have been fun. It’s a dance show boys and girls. It’s a dance show,’ he said during the most recent episode of his Staying Relevant podcast.

His comments come after he also spoke about specific threats he’d received recently too.

‘Someone actually wished death upon me on the dance floor the other day,’ he shared.

‘Let’s all keep our fingers crossed that he gets booted out and breaks both legs slipping on the floor,’ he added during a previous episode of his podcast.

Despite the shocking trolling, others have vowed to continue supporting Pete on the show.

‘He said on his podcast that he’s been receiving loads of hate messages, and even death threats, because he’s still in the competition,’ user OK-Lychee-1276 posted on Reddit.

‘Are people actually okay?! Like it’s just an entertainment show, it’s not that deep. And even if it was, death threats are never okay.

‘Just makes me more determined to vote for him, so people can continue to lose their minds over a celebrity dancing show.’

‘Pete can’t help that he’s got a large and dedicated voter base, and some technically better dancers don’t,’ lostinplatitudes commented.

‘It’s pathetic. There’s so much joy on a show like this! People need to get a grip and get a life, and just stop being so ridiculous,’ martinursus added.

On the most recent episode of Strictly, EastEnders star Jamie Borthwick just missed out on a place in the quarter-final with dance partner Michelle Tsiakkas.

After some viewers said Pete shouldn’t have made it through, he went on to agree with their sentiments he wasn’t as strong a dancer as the other remaining contestants.

‘Firstly, THANK YOU, I never expected to be anywhere near a quarter-final of this show and the fact that I am is purely down to you at home! I’m not sure why you’re voting but I’m so thankful that you are. I have put everything I can in to this for the past 3 months, I’ve thrown myself at it and I feel very blessed to be continuing this rollercoaster with Jowita. I’m not a dancer, I’m not a performer, I’m just a bloke trying to get a little bit better each week. I wish I could thank every single one of you individually,’ he said.

‘Secondly, trust me I know I’m not as good as the rest and I’m sorry for that but I’m trying my best, we all are. I’m just trying to improve and learn as I go. No one is more surprised that I’m still here than me.’

He went on to write that whatever happens, everyone who signed up for the series ‘took a step outside of our comfort zone to try and learn something new and to put on a show’.

During this season, Pete’s highest score has been 36 during week 8, however he remains the lowest scoring contestant after being awarded 22 points twice.

Strictly Come Dancing continues Saturday at 7.05pm on BBC One.
