Sugar Ray, the 90s rock band, returned to the stage after 25 years – but fans were not at all impressed.

Sugar Ray is an American rock band that was first formed in 1986 and released seven albums over the past decades.

The band had success in 1999 with their hit songs Someday and Every Morning but dropped out of the mainstream charts.

The band, fronted by Mark McGrath, performed recently at the Lido Theater in Newport Beach, California – the city in which they first formed.

Unfortunately for the band, their performance was met with mixed results after it was shared on social media.

‘Wow that’s terrible,’ commented dberkenfield on an Instagram post of the band’s performance.

‘Really really not good,’ said Marksaytree. ‘Damn. Sounding like a cover band of their own band,’ said wolf_larsen85.

The group was originally made up of Mark McGrath, Rodney Sheppard, Murphy Karges, and Stan Frazier, but the members have changed over time with various artists dipping in and out over time.

In the late 90s and early 00s the hit song Fly catapulted the band into fame and became a summer anthem as people adored the mix of pop and rock.

The band appeared in several films, most notably the 2002 movie Scooby Doo, starring Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Matthew Lillard, and Linda Cardellini.

The band last released an album in 2019 after previously expressing concern that they would never release another album.

Despite varying success, fans may recognise McGrath after his moment in the spotlight on The Masked Singer in 2021.

The singer appeared on the show as an orca and was praised for his ‘electric’ performances on the show.
