TV show compared to classic 80s movie hailed ‘an absolute blast’-Sabrina Barr-Entertainment – Metro

A brand new TV show that’s drawing parallels to one of the most beloved movies of the 1980s has been hailed a ‘blast’ by fans.

This week, Skeleton Crew is set to premiere on Disney Plus, the latest release to come from the expansive Star Wars franchise.

The show stars Jude Law as a Force-user called Jod Na Nawood, as well as child stars Ravi Cabot-Conyers, Robert Timothy Smith, Kyriana Kratter and Ryan Kiera Armstrong, who play Wim, Neel, KB and Fern respectively.

The sci-fi series will follow a group of four children who go on an adventure across the galaxy as they strive to make their way back home – and it’s already proving a huge hit with audiences, with many saying it reminds them of the beloved 1985 classic The Goonies.

Before the release of the first two episodes, critics were able to watch the first three instalments in advance, sparking a plethora of glowing reactions.

Felix Caraballo, a journalist from Metro PR in Puerto Rico, raved over the first three episodes, while also making the widespread Goonies comparison.

‘Skeleton Crew’s first three episodes are a blast,’ he said.

‘The Goonies in a galaxy far, far away sets the tone, but it takes on a darker tone as the adventure becomes more tense & dangerous. #JudeLaw is a perfect fit for #StarWars & have great chemistry with the young cast. Can’t wait!’

Phil Roberts from Future of the Force agreed, saying that the series ‘effortless captures the spirit of The Goonies to deliver a fun, kid-centric Star Wars adventure’.

‘It’s an energetic, fun story that expands the sandbox with its light-hearted tone. Great score. Great performances. Solid start,’ he shared.

Critic Mark Cassidy said that he found the show ‘a lot of fun’, stressing that it was ‘exactly what you’d expect’ after seeing he trailers, adding: ‘Goonies in space – but the kids are not annoying (my biggest concern), Jude Law gives good scoundrel, and Nick Frost’s droid is hilarious.’

Jamie from Last Exit to Nowhere expressed his hope that the series ‘turns out to be something special’, while an X user called @mktoon found Skeleton Crew ‘complete unlike anything else in the Star Wars universe’.

‘Half the fanbase is gonna implode at the song choice alone but it’s giving 80’s Goonies synth pop suburban adventure in a galaxy far far away and I am HERE. FOR. IT,’ they wrote excitedly.

Neil Vagg from Get Your Comic On also highlighted how Skeleton Crew ‘embraces its silliness alongside a wondrous sense of adventure’, and could be a ‘brilliant’ introduction to Star Wars for younger fans.

We can’t wait to see how even more viewers are going to react!
