I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! host Declan Donnelly was rushed to see medics behind-the-scenes after being bitten by a spider.

The celebrities in the jungle, including McFly’s Danny Jones and Coleen Rooney, have had to deal with critters and crawlies in the camp and in bushtucker trials, but this time, it was the hosts’ turn.

The 49-year-old Britain’s Got Talent presenter was checked by medics backstage to ensure it wasn’t poisonous.

His co-host Ant McPartlin told fans during their Instagram live session: ‘We’ve had quite a lot of drama not only on the show, but off the show as well, because Dec had a spider on his neck and was bitten by a spider and the medic was called in to have a look.’

Dec then showed viewers where the spider bit him, and said it jumped onto his script before biting his neck.

He quipped: ‘The medic said I was lucky to be alive.

‘If I wasn’t so fit and healthy, and masculine, I might not have survived.’

‘Takes you a long time to make up lies,’ Ant hit back with, adding: ‘No, she didn’t, she said it was a jumping spider and it was absolutely fine.’

Dec also showed followers the picture of the spider he took before it bit him, with Ant quipping: ‘You clearly weren’t in that much of a panic if you could take a portrait photo of it.’

They then revealed a member of the crew was rushed to hospital and needed stitches after she ‘fell and split [her] knee open’.

This comes after I’m A Celebrity Unpacked host Kemi Rodgers revealed the crew have been as surrounded by bugs as the cast staying in the camp.

She told Metro: ‘Starting this show and being in the jungle, having bugs landing on me, and trying to deal with the cockroaches that are just around the set, it’s making me more scared than I think I ever would’ve been before.’

It was claimed earlier this year that the camp had been invaded by poisonous toads, that could squirt toxins into people’s eyes causing vision problems and pain, and venom secreted through their glands could seep through human skin.

Bosses reportedly had to work hard to clear the campsite before the celebrities – including Strictly’s Oti Mabuse and social media star GK Barry – arrived.

A source told the Mirror: ‘As if there weren’t enough things for the campers to worry about like spiders, snakes and ticks, now it looks like they’ll have to keep an eye out for armies of these poisonous pests.

‘They love ponds so the jungle creek and even the famous shower area will need to be monitored closely.’

I’m A Celebrity continues tonight at 9pm on ITV1.
