TV show fans have been devouring a ‘compelling’ thriller with an A-list cast despite a mixed reception from critics.

They have urged viewers to ignore the lukewarm reviews for Paramount Plus show The Agency, which stars Michael Fassbender, Jodie Turner-Smith, Richard Gere and Zoe Saldana.

An English-language remake of French show The Bureau, the political drama follows Martian (Fassbender), a covert CIA agent, ordered to abandon his undercover life and return to London Station.

But when the love he left behind reappears, romance reignites and his career, real identity and mission are pitted against his heart, hurling them both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.

Since launching on Paramount Plus over the weekend, The Agency has not won over critics, with the show earning a mid Rotten Tomatoes score of 65% on the Tomatometer.

However, fans on Google have said the critics are wrong, with Scott Morgan arguing: ‘I have no idea who these critics are or what show they’re watching, but this is epic television.

‘Amazing acting, tight compelling writing and incredible cinematography, keep you on the edge of your seat and wanting more. This is one of the best CIA/espionage TV shows that has been done in a long time.’

Echoing their sentiment, Igor Faygenbaum wrote: ‘Smart. Pithy, sharp dialogue. No rudimentary explanation or pointless expose to make it easier for general audiences but if you’re quick and enjoy the espionage genre you’ll catch on quick.

Rishindra Sharma added: ‘Amazing Cast !! Loving the slow burn and the screenplay. Excited about the upcoming episodes! Michael Fassbender is badass as always.’

Michael had an intense period of preparation for the ‘physically and mentally intense’ of Martian.

He told Men’s Health: ‘I put a pretty strict regimen in place, where I would get up early, work out, and then ice baths, and then into hair and make-up to start the day. That really helped me mentally.

‘Training in general, for me, whether it’s doing a sport, or getting into the gym… working out is crucial for me to have that mental positivity and stability.

‘Over the last seven or eight years that’s been very important to me, and that definitely helped me with the character to have a focus, and a stability.’

The Agency is not the only thriller to have gripped viewers over the past few days.

They have also been binge watching conspiracy thriller The Madness which stars Oscar-nominated actor Colman Domingo.

In it, he plays media pundit and TV host Muncie Daniels who finds himself framed for the murder of a white supremacist.

On X @rickyramon95, exclaimed: ‘This TV series has amazing. And Colman Domingo is brilliant in it. I was so nervous the entire time. Go binge it now!’

Menawhile, critics have particularly singled out hidden gem Bad Day For the Cut which has a 92% Rotten Tomatoes score.
The film follows a mild-mannered farmer named Donal who finds his elderly mother murdered in what appears to be a home invasion.

When masked thugs then try to kill him in a botched staged suicide, he escapes with his life and embarks on a quest to avenge her.

The Agency is available to stream on Paramount Plus.
