Alison Hammond broke down in tears giving an emotional apology to her son.
The 49-year-old presenter spoke about ‘sacrificing a lot of time’ with her son Aiden to ‘work so hard’.
After rising to fame on Big Brother, Alison has become TV royalty, becoming a familiar face on ITV, hosting The Great British Bake Off and taking over for Paul O’Grady on For The Love of Dogs.
On Saturday, the This Morning host was presented with the Role Model award at the Multicultural Business and Community Champion Awards in Birmingham and she apologised to her 19-year-old son for not ‘always being there’.
In her acceptance speech, Alison said: ‘I’m actually going to take this quite seriously, because I’ve worked so hard guys, I’m not even just saying that. I’ve worked so hard.
‘When you work so hard there are sacrifices you have to make and I’ve sacrificed a lot of time with my son, over there and I just want to say to my son, I love you so much, son.

‘And I’m so sorry I haven’t always been there, but I’ll be honest with you, the reason I was doing it was only for you.’
The teary star added: ‘Sorry, I’m getting emotional because I don’t normally get recognised for things like this so, thank you for recognising me, it means an absolute… so much to me.
‘And it’s so lovely to inspire and be a role model.’
She went on to talk about how she’s proud to ‘be herself’, urging others to ‘keep pushing, keep going, if you think you can’t do something, you can’.

Alison, who has appeared on the likes of I’m A Celebrity, Strictly Come Dancing and Celebrity MasterChef, went on to defiantly reveal all the things she’d achieved, despite being told no.
She said: ‘Do you know how many times people have told me I couldn’t do Strictly Come Dancing, I was like, “Shut up man, I’m doing Strictly Come Dancing,” and then they said I can’t host a TV show and I said, “Shut up man, I can do it,” and then they said I can’t do For The Love of Dogs and I was like, “Babes, hang on, I can do it,” and then they said I can’t host a show making cakes, and I was like, “Shut up man, I can make bread and butter pudding”.
‘I’m doing it. Everything you want to do in this life, you go and do it, and you achieve it, and you smash it.’

Alison has previously spoken about her very close bond with her son, telling Hello! Magazine: ‘Aiden is my twin who was born 30 years after me. Our personalities are very similar.
‘I’m so proud of the kind young man he’s turned into.’
She added that she’s proud of ‘the person he is’ and ‘how kind he is’, describing Aiden as ‘a lovely, chilled-out young man.’
‘When other people come up to me and say, “Your son is so lovely”, I think “Yes, I’ve done my job”.’

Earlier this year, Alison told how she struggled to pay her bills in the years after she found fame, despite appearing on various programmes.
After work dried up in the years, she took up a job at a hairdressers to make ends meet.
She told The Observer newspaper: ‘There was a time when I couldn’t pay my mortgage and I was really famous. I’d answer the phone, do a few blow dries. It’s not all good all of the time.’
She added: ‘It’s not all good all of the time. But I was all right, you know? That’s television, it’s fickle and it’s part of my journey, part of my power.’
Considering whether Bake Off would want her back, she said: ‘And that’s OK. I know I’ll be OK, because I’ve been OK before. I’ll go and work at Tesco and people will still love me.’
