Iconic rock band Dead & Company have thrilled fans by announcing a string of 10th-anniversary shows at an equally iconic venue.

The American group formed in 2015 and originally comprised Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, and Bill Kreutzmann, along with John Mayer, Oteil Burbridge, and Jeff Chimenti.

In 2023, Jay Lane replaced Kreutzmann on drums.

Almost a decade since joining forces, Dead & Company, who primarily perform Grateful Dead covers, have revealed that they’ll be returning to the famous Las Vegas Sphere.

They’ll plan a run of 18 shows inside the epic Sin City venue, kicking off on March 20 next year and concluding on May 17.

Fans can nab tickets in the presale on Tuesday, December 10, at 10am PT (6pm UK time), with a second sale beginning at the same time on Thursday, December 12.

Registration is now open for the sales via the group’s website, with travel and accommodation packages on sale from tomorrow.

Announcing the new shows, Dead & Company wrote on social media that they are ‘thrilled’ to be celebrating their anniversary on such a scale.

This will make them the first band to hold a second residency at the Sphere, having first performed there in May this year, finishing their run in August.

Since opening last September, the Sphere has welcomed Phish, the Eagles, and U2 to its stage, with the latter being the first to perform there for 40 shows.

Currently, the Eagles are powering through a run of 32 shows across 15 weekends, which finishes next April.

Reacting to the news that Dead & Company are returning to the 18,600-seat immersive auditorium, fans could barely control their excitement.

‘If Dead is back, then we are back!’, commented eyes_of_the_joe_man_ on their Instagram page.

‘THIS COMING YEAR JUST GOT SO MUCH BETTER! ⚡️🌹💀 🌹 ⚡️’, commented ariellakarunayoga.

Dead & Company’s last tour wrapped up in San Francisco, where the Grateful Dead was born.

In total, 840,000 fans attended the tour, all of whom have been living in hope since Mayer announced that ‘Dead & Company is still very much a band’, despite the timings of future shows having been uncertain.

Speaking about the group’s longevity, Mayer and Hart told GQ in June that the ‘openness’ of their shows is ‘exciting’, describing their live set-up as ‘future-proof’.

‘The thing about being in this band and the Grateful Dead universe at large is you just don’t know what tomorrow’s going to bring. Just don’t know,’ they teased.

However, it seemed in summer that the members weren’t 100% convinced they’d be back on stage together at all.

‘I don’t think I’ve ever spoken to anyone and known something that was happening in the future and gave a little wink and went, I don’t know. I truly do not know if we’ll come back.’

They added that, typically, ‘bands can only play once at the Sphere’, but there had also been chatter of ‘that no longer being a rule’, which is very clearly the case now.

‘But I’ll tell you this,’ they added. ‘If someone asked me to do more, I would absolutely do more. But if we did that, it wouldn’t be this year.’

Well, now we have an answer!
